Oahu beach wedding, stressing myself out!!!!

Robin, on April 16, 2019 at 11:14 AM Posted in Hawaii Planning 0 5
Hello and Congrats to all who are planning their day! I am stressing myself out!!! lol. Planning our "just the two of us" ceremony for January 14, 2020 on Makapuu Beach in Oahu, HI. Living in Illinois, and being the over thinker, over worrier and just plain control freak is stressing me out. It's neither our ours first wedding, we just want a simple Hawaiian ceremony and great pictures. So far I've found an officiant that I thought would be great, but they wouldn't really discuss a time change in case of weather issue with me until I send the deposit, which I believe is non refundable. I don't want to take up their whole day, just want to be able to see the weather forecast a few days out and adjust time accordingly. Am I asking too much? Maybe I am and don't see it?? Have the condo narrowed down to three choices, alerts set for flights, know what flowers I want to hold. I need yoga or meditation in my life STAT!

Hi! I have been to Hawaii multiple times. There is usually rain somewhere on the island while the other side can be clear. I wouldn’t worry about it too much as it usually doesn’t last too long! Your wedding is going to be beautiful! At Oahu the rain is typically more so in the mountain areas. Congratulations and good luck!

That's going to be beautiful! I totally understand the struggle though. My fiance and I are actually going to have our little elopement ceremony with immediate family at Kiholo Bay on the Big Island. For the most part, if there is one, the best part about rain is the rainbow afterward. Who knows, you just might catch the end of the rain and catch the rainbow in your pictures! When it's all said and done, we laugh about how stressed out we made ourselves.

Welcome to the WeddingWire community, Robin!

Firstly, I’m sorry to read your stressing. Take a deep breath and try to relax!! I’m the exact same, classic over thinker and always try to control everything! I always find writing things down and lists (so.many.lists.!!) help me stay calm and on top of everything.

The weather is one of those things no one can control!! Having a plan B will make you feel calmer and prepared for any weather conditions.

If you’re not comfortable paying the officiant a deposit before discussing a time change, would it be best to find an alternative? There are a bunch on the WeddingWire ideas section you can check out - Honolulu Wedding Officiants. You can change the location to find officiants closer to where you plan on having the wedding if you wish!

This article from the WeddingWire ideas section is helpful with tips on how to reduce stress when you feel it coming on - 10 Ways To Reduce Stress During Wedding Planning

Have you considered booking a local wedding planner in Hawaii (point number 9)?

Thank you all for your responses and advise. I stepped back for a while and feel refreshed. lol. My fiancé keeps reminding me that the main goal is proclaiming our love for each other, that's it, bottom line. He is right, I shouldn't stress. I do feel that some of the officiants aren't returning any of my emails due to the fact that our date is so far out. I have decided to reach out to them again in June or so. Thanks again for giving me a place to let off the steam and know that I can always come here and talk to others that have gone or are going through the same things.

I'm getting married on the beach this October, my planner said that most showers only last a few minutes. But if it should be an all day event they would reschedule for the next day. FYI we are in Philadelphia and eloping so I don't have guests to worry about.
