Not that excited about Honeymoon :(

Mrs. J Robinson, on October 5, 2018 at 9:16 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 60
Hey everyone! Our wedding is about 5 months away and we are about to buy flights to our honeymoon. We originally planned on going to Aruba, but then I ended up having to buy a car and ended up having to pay $1500 on my dress. So then we decided on somewhere in the Dominican republic but then FH has some things come up financially for me. So now we decided on Cancun because it’s the cheapest opinion for for (outside of the US,) but honestly I’m extremely disappointed. I always wanted to go to Cancun, just not for a honeymoon. I feel so terrible for feeling this way, but I feel like EVERYONE goes to Cancun and for some reason I’ve convinced myself that it’s going to be a less special experience for us. Crazy right? 😓

I’m sure im overreacting (so no point in telling me something I already know,) but I wanted to ask you guys...where is some of the best affordable adults only resorts or some activities to do in Cancun where we can experience something romantic. I guess I’m just concerned on our honeymoon being ruined by kids, etc.

OR...are there any other affordable places you guys suggest we go? Any hidden gems?? Flights round trip for Cancun is $178.....so not looking to spend too much more than that for our flights.

Thanks in advance! ❤️

That is a bummer, I'm sorry that you don't get to have your dream honeymoon! We used a travel agent to book ours, so I would suggest looking into agents in your area to help out. They typically work for free because they make commission from the resorts. We decided to do that because we were absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of resorts, they were able to help us actually pick out what was important to us & narrow it down. They also had been to most of the resorts so they actually had their own pictures/first hand knowledge and we thought that was helpful. On the bright-side, you guys can save up and have an awesome 5 year anniversary trip or something! You'll have a great time!

Look at the Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen. It's a little less crazy than Cancun, more secluded. And only like a 45 min drive from the Cancun airport.

Are far as activities, we went to Xel Ha and absolutely loved it. It's a natural waterpark. They have sister parks too that are all different themed. They're just done really well.

You should take the bus from the airport in Cancun (so easy to do) to Playa Del Carmen. It's about an hour ride and hop on the ferry to Cozumel. Cozumel is the most gorgeous island with a lot of fun activities! It's really quiet and romantic. They had the best snorkeling!!

I'm so sorry that you feel that way, but many people cannot even afford to go on a honeymoon outside of the US (myself included) so I'd focus on the fact that you are lucky enough to afford such a nice vacation with your FH immediately after the wedding, even if it's not your first choice. Cancun will still be lovely.

I used Liberty 🗽 Travel and had a great experience.

Have you thought 💭 about checking out Groupon?

Why not take a mini-moon close to your wedding location (or nearby) just to relax then take an “official honeymoon” on your 1st anniversary?

I'm so sorry your original plans didn't work out!

The good news is, most things that are popular are popular for a reason. If you know lots of people go to Cancun it's probably because it's amazing! Just remember that the main purpose of your honeymoon is to spend time with your husband and enjoy each other's company! Theoretically, you can do that anywhere. I've never been to Cancun but I have heard that it is beautiful. Try not to overthink the destination and remember why you are there! It will be special regardless of where you are or who else has been there, because it is your honeymoon.

I know how fortunate we are to be able to make this work, but FH just started a second job and I’m working 55+ hour work weeks (and I’m on call 24/7 right now) to make this trip possible. I know wherever we go it’ll be amazing, but of course it’s going to be disappointing for us, or anyone, to work ourselves like this and still not be able to get the trip we prayed and hoped for. Unfortunately I can’t help how I feel about this and I already feel bad for feeling the way I do. So Please don’t take this post as me being ungrateful.

I suggested it, but the only “must have” that was important to him and something he didn’t want to budge on was going on a honeymoon right after the wedding. Like it’s literally the ONLY thing he asked for 😂 so I’m just trying to honor that

You’re absolutely right! It’s a lot easier to look at it at a different perspective. It’s not about where you go but how you get there kinda thing lol

Sorry things didn't go as planned! I know for a fact that there are adult only all-inclusive resorts in Cancun. I will add that you're getting married around spring break time for college students, so be mindful of that when planning if leaving promptly for honeymoon after. Smiley smile

Exactly. My FH and I originally planned to go to Italy for our honeymoon but due to costs and my anxiety about traveling we decided it just wasn't the right time to do such an extravagant trip. We're driving down to Hilton Head, SC now for our honeymoon, super simple, staying in a resort on the beach for 8 nights, probably will do a couple day trips to Charleston and Savannah, GA. I do honestly feel really glad that our honeymoon isn't at an extravagant destination and that it will be amazing and beautiful, but not TOO exciting if that makes sense. It'll allow us to focus more time and energy on each other!

I didn’t say this in my original post, but that’s why I’m most worried about the trip. I’m hoping that drunk college kids won’t ruin our trip, but we I guess we’ll just have to do a lot of research and be very particular about where we go!

THIS. My fiancé recently lost his job, and it came at the worst possible time. I had planned on a mini moon for us but looks like we will not be able to afford that, either. Sorry but I’d love to go to Cancun. You’re very fortunate, OP. Some of us can’t even afford to go out on dates. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I second Groupon! They always have inclusive trips and activities and its honestly amazing. Even just for day excursions or a total all-inclusive trip! I just recently saw them promoting a 12 day all inclusive trip to China for $999 per person. Obviously that’s out of your budget, but if that’s the price for a 12 day trip, imagine what you can do with your budget!

Yes! Do your research for sure. I think nicer resorts would be less likely to be populated with college kids. Also I think there are couple resorts. Might be worth searching for.

At the end of the day you're going to be on a vacation with your new husband so nothing can reaaally fully ruin that. Smiley smile Smiley heart
