Non-seating tables in cocktail/reception area

Kari, on May 7, 2021 at 6:07 PM Posted in Planning 1 10

Please check my thinking. Aside from tables to eat/drink at (so high top tables in cocktail area and dinner tables for reception area), what else do I need tables for or are typical at wedding receptions?

I'm thinking we need:

Place to have seating chart, place cards, or other form of table assignments

Table with favors and/or welcome bags

Cake and desserts

Cards and gifts

Table with photos and guest book/guest book alternative

I know some of these can be combined. But am I missing anything?

A table for your DJ if you're having one!

Thank you! Didn't even think to ask if we needed to supply one or he has his own stand/set-up! I'll look through my contract and be sure to ask him if it isn't clear.

Tables and chairs for all guests. It is impossible to hold a plate, a drink, a purse, and have a free hand to eat/drink with. Women will be in heels and you don’t know know who has mobility issues and can’t stand for long periods.

Guestbook and cards/gifts are on the same table generally. Does the dj have a spot to set up equipment?
Why do you need welcome bags at the reception? Those are usually given out by the hotel clerks.
    Otherwise everything sounds good.
Does the caterer provide their own tables for fruit/meat platters?

Yes tables and chairs for guests are a given. Our venue and caterer are the same, so I just need to request tables for anything we would want to set up and wanted to make sure I am not missing anything. We are not doing guest bags or favors, but I know they are common and would be mentioned if I had left them out.

That sounds about what I’m having also, just check with your dj, and catering for drink table, and all the food and cake table. Like our cake is going on a separate table from the sliced cake for everyone else. We are also doing the favors just on everyone’s plate when they come in, so depending on your favor it can go somewhere else or be combined with another table line the guest book so they sign and then take their treat.

    Hello Kari.

Maybe a separate drink table for your vendors?

Ahh yes, I will look at that contract as well. Our venue has a bar setup so I don't think an additional table will be needed but will ask just to be sure! Appreciate the tip!

About half of cocktail tables should be regular low height, with chairs. People often want to sit twenty minutes undisturbed. Others 5'4 and older or disabled cannot get up on most and have to stand the entire time under people on stools. Unpleasant.

I think we have a good sense of our guests needs and venue layout, thank you. Perhaps someone else browsing this thread will find this insight helpful, but it is not at all applicable to our situation.
