No registry? Am i the only one?

Mary, on November 24, 2020 at 6:30 PM Posted in Registry 0 35

My FH and I are both in our 30's and have our own places. We are opting out of having a gift registry, since we are going to spend a ton of time trying to go through what we have already and decide what we keep and what we donate. We are giving the option of giving to a honeymoon fund or donating to a charity of their choice on our behalf. I joked that I should ask people to donate to a dog fund - I really want a cockapoo!

Please tell me we are not the only ones. My FSIL just got married this year and she joked to me, "You just toss it all and get new stuff!" Smiley laugh

We had a minimony but I had friends and family that still wanted to get us stuff and we decided no registry. Honeymoon fund is good or some people may get you a gift card. I partially did not do one since we did not have the big wedding but like you we have lived together for 5 years so new stuff we could buy and would not do a registry just because.

We just wanted our friends and family to know that we don't need things from them to know they are happy for us. Smiley smile And we don't need things. I use the term "honeymoon fund" loosely, we don't have anything set up, just if family want to gift with checks, cash or gift cards.

It makes a big difference when you already have an established life. I might have made an error in not registering for that SMEG coffee maker I've had my eye on though. Smiley winking

Um no, I disagree with your Fsil. I would recommend considering a honeyfund.

I did the same. i just opted for a honeymoon fund but i will say that they charge you a transaction fee and most people preferred it when i had split the fund into activities they could purchase for us for the honeymoon, that way they knew what exactly the money was going to.

most people ended up just giving me checks and cash

Me too! I am not completely minimal, but I try not to collect stuff. We have the items we need and use regularly - no need to toss them and get new ones. Smiley smile

We don't have a registry but we will have a card box/gift table in case anyone still wants to give something. We currently have an all inclusive honeymoon booked so no need for a honeymoon fund.

We did a registry. We used it for some upgrades we wanted, but definitely didn’t need or want anything. The biggest reason I did a registry was so I didn’t end up with stuff I really didn’t want or could use. People will still probably get you gifts. I will probably never throw a gift away and didn’t want to be stuck with something I will never use or something I just don’t like

We aren't using a honeymoon fund site - just giving people the option of sending checks and cash. We are going to Fort Lauderdale, and my FH is a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins. They just happen to have a home game there when we are there. So we are buying tickets for the game. My FH is so excited - pretty sure he is more excited about that then marrying me. Smiley winking

See, I have no problem tossing things that were gifted to me, but I didn't want or need. Most of our family and friends invited know us really well and that we don't like clutter. We have had a few people ask us if a particular gift would be something that would interest us; that has been helpful. We have given a few ideas to some of those in our family that have "gift-giving" as their love language.

I told people I did not have a registry and they decided to give stuff on their own so they might do the same. I can say the gift cards we got will go to some new plates (some have chipped or broken lol) and other house things we need...now if an Nespresso goes on sale Black Friday well.....ha ha ha.

Nespresso is a solid choice haha! I saw my FH looking at one online the other day - maybe that will be my wedding gift from him. Smiley winking I got him a bar cart with some whiskey tumblers and stones - he is a social whiskey drinker and we don't have anywhere to put the bottles besides the much needed counterspace. I think he will be surprised. And then I have somewhere to store my wine.

Fingers crossed everything will be open for you! We wanted to go to the Virgin Islands, but just ended up booking a resort in FL instead.

Screwball is a unique whiskey! I heard that if you mix it with grape soda it tastes like a PB&J sandwich. haha!

Did not do with grape soda but another liquor and it was good. I am not one to drink liquor straight up so I actually like that and so does he so it is something we both enjoy. I am a wine persona and he is a whiskey but from our honeymoon he now appreciates margaritas and mojitos lol.
