nc Mass Gathering- 1st Amendment?

Sam, on November 2, 2020 at 2:57 AM Posted in North Carolina Planning 0 2

Hi Ladies!

So our wedding is March 27th, 2021. As of now, NC is moving at a snail's pace in terms of reopening, with a 25 guest limit for mass gatherings. HOWEVER, per the order, it states:

"Section 4: Exemptions from This Executive Order. Worship, religious, and spiritual gatherings, funeral ceremonies, wedding ceremonies, and other activities constituting the exercise of First Amendment rights are exempt from all the requirements of this Executive Order, notwithstanding any other provision of this Executive Order. The undersigned strongly urges that entities and individuals engaging in these exempted activities follow the Recommendations to Promote Social Distancing and Reduce Transmission, wear and require Face Coverings, avoid exceeding Emergency Maximum Occupancy in the places where they meet, and avoid holding Mass Gatherings as defined in Section 7 of this Executive Order."

The safety of my guests is of course the most important to me, and my venue is huge with plenty of room for social distancing! Does this mean that I can have my original guest count at my ceremony, but not my reception? I planned on having bible readings during both, so would both be considered religious? Thoughts? Please be kind!

I would ask your venue. I have seen different venues do different things here in NC. Also, by the time your wedding is here, we could be in a completely different phase, or no phase at all.

Hi Sam! First things first I'd talk to you venue about their current capacity and restrictions under local guidance, and ask about their capacity in your reception space. Capacity is the biggest factor right now in NC for wedding size, and I believe you can have up to 30% of the venue's capacity (up to 100 people total). But things can change, so I'd definitely get in touch with your venue and get on the same page!
