name change dilemma

Cassandra, on January 11, 2024 at 11:22 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 3

Long story short. i never had my birth dads last name till about three years ago when i could finally afford to legally change it. and now im torn on what to do. I want to take my soon to be husbands last night but i dont want to necessarily get rid of my dads last name. so do i move it to my middle name? do i hyphenate it even though my current last name (dads) and my soon to be husbands both start with S.

my dad wont care either way and neither does my soon to be husband- bless his heart. but i myself am torn on what to do given ive waited a long time to not only have my dads last name but to find my prince and marry the man of my dreams.

I think making your dad’s name your middle name would be your best bet for balancing both of your wishes. I know a lot of married women who do that.

You can have two middle names too. You can keep your current, add your dad's name as the 2nd middle name, then have your husbands name for your last.

Also, you can have both as last names, not hyphenated in my opinion, and it won't matter at all if they both start with an S.

Cassandra Sawyer Smith (just an example) sounds beautiful to me.

Hyphenating it sounds like a good way to honor where you came from and blend your family with your spouse's
