My hair and make up artist will not answer my questions or respond

Sarah, on June 23, 2023 at 10:26 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8
I hired my hair and makeup artist last year. Everything was well and she even did my engagement hair and make up for photos. I get married this year December 2. My venue is already wanting to know what time my vendors will be showing up. I sent my hair and makeup artist a message and she said she usually don’t give that info out until a month before but said it’s no problem and would get back to me in a few days…it’s been over a week but I’m not pushing the issue because I still have some time. I have asked her twice how far in advance notice does she need for me to book my bridal trial and she has seen the message but won’t respond. I’m getting a little aggravated but don’t want to upset her if I continue to ask. She has already been paid off for the wedding. Advice would be appreciated and thank you

Have you tried calling her instead of sending a text? You may have better luck getting in contact with her through a phone call.

I had difficulty getting responses from my HMUA. Unfortunately I had to move on from her after it happened repeatedly since I realized I no longer trusted her and would be super anxious about whether or not she would actually show up. Since I’m the one who canceled, I lost my deposit. Of course, my email requesting to cancel the contract is the fastest she ever responded and she offered to talk on the phone and get me to reconsider at that point. Maybe even just a “I may have to reconsider whether I’ll be able to move forward with your services” will nudge her to be more responsive.

If possible send an email, that way at least you have documentation. Always leave a paper trail if there's an option.

A phone call is always more effective than a text or email because those get lost. Also, this is peak wedding season so she is busy with other brides and events. The venue doesn’t need to know several months ahead when vendors are showing up so that is likely why she doesn’t give out the info this early.

I think it's really early for your venue to be asking when your vendors will arrive, and I think it's extremely early for your HMAU person to have to figure out her timeline. She's probably in the peak of wedding season right now and very busy.

I would give her another week or so to get back to you. I would also think a trial would be done about a month or so before your wedding.

It's really odd that the HMUA wouldn't have at least a rough estimate for how long it will take. I agree with others that you should text or email so you have a record. If she doesn't answer within a week I would suggest going to the salon to talk to her.

    I agree.

OP, Why is your venue asking already? Venues usually tell the couple what time vendors can access the property. These are major vendors like rental companies, lighting, band/ DJ. You should ask your venue directly if they are planning another event right before yours, or concurrently. This will impact Your day for sure. If you are decorating yourself, request access night before to at least lay down ironed linens.
For hair & makeup, add 30 min more to your engagement prep time. My MUA planned 2 hrs for me + 30-45 min? For my hair (by someone else). Other ladies were given 30-45 min for makeup. If you have a WP getting services, I strongly suggest you request an assistant (2 ppl or more) to get everyone done. 2 ppl can be seen at the same time with you taking most time.

I agree with other responses, you might want to call and speak with her. Right now lots of HMUA are very busy in the depths of Wedding Season and maybe she has not found the perfect time to reach out to you yet. If you feel like she is avoiding you, you can always reach out to her with your concerns and if nothing happens you can reach out then to your bank and request a refund for whatever was paid already.
