Music for Ceremony & Reception

Julia, on April 9, 2024 at 10:14 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 2 4
Hello! We have a very small budget for our wedding as we’re just starting out in life! Because of this, we’re not hiring a DJ but are planning to use a church member who’s offered to hit play and etc for us on our playlists at the proper times. We’re largely using Spotify but my question is about the ceremony. Some of the songs we’ve chosen are too long/short for the time it will take to walk down the aisle so they need to be adapted. I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions for apps where I could edit/adapt the songs and how I would download or send them to someone so that they can be played from a phone during the ceremony. Thank you!

I've never used spotify, but I've edited sound files in garageband which used to come with apple computers. This was 15 years ago so I'm not sure it still does.

I've also edited songs in windows movie maker by putting random pics in for the 'video' importing the song- exporting as a mp4, re importing it so I can edit it, then re exporting as an mp3 because windows doesn't has a garage band equivelent.
I looked this thing up and lots of people like audacity, but I haven't used it.

I have a YouTube Music account with no ads so I made myself a wedding playlist that I'm going to run on a laptop and basically have someone pause and play as well. Why pay someone a thousand dollars to push buttons if you don't have to, right? Personally, I wouldn't recommend using a phone because you don't want to risk the awkward moment of having a phone call or text interrupt a song. Instant mood killer!

The Audacity software is available for free and available for Mac OS, Windows and Linux. You can stretch a recording or shrink its length. But depending on the music, some odd effects may become noticeable. Just play around and see what happens. There also is an experimental save-to-cloud in the 3.5 version, but you could possibly save to google or there is this ufile.io and other places to save files online.
