Mob/mog Dress Shopping

Hope, on June 1, 2021 at 1:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
So I was wondering when should my mother and mother in law go dress shopping, my wedding day is Oct 14,2022. I want to at least make a appointment now for six to eight months before the wedding or maybe I should plan a appointment for them four to three months before. I have no clue! Please help. Thank you!

Honestly, they can get their dress whenever. Most moms go to Macy's or Nordstrom and buy something off the rack. Maybe buying 2-3 months ahead of time in case they need to hem it or something.

Thank you Hannah! Do you think making a appointment 2-3 months before the wedding at a bridal store or a David Bridal would still be ok?

You could reasonably find a MOB/MOG dress off the rack only a few months in advance and wouldn't be an issue. If alterations are desired add in another month or so. You have a ton of time and don't need to even think about appointments until next year. Also most places won't take appointments for next year yet.

The other thing you could think about, if your mom and FMIL aren't really going for anything trendy and want something more classic, you could look late this summer for Fall options. We're just over 4 months out now and my MIL started looking for our Oct 2021 wedding and found that nothing she was seeing really worked for "Fall". There's lots of spring and summer options right now. I know she's nervous to wait until late summer for Fall dresses to arrive in stores and then only have two months to find and alter but I'm sure it will all work out. My mom isn't worried about it so it all depends on personality and preference when to start shopping.

If it's a bridal salon or David's Bridal, I'd maybe push it to like 4-5 months, but that should still give plenty of buffer time.

Unless your mom and MOG are already super close I wouldn't plan an appointment together. Also, I wouldnt' plan appointments for them at all unless they asked me to. I dont' know any mom who actually got her dress at a salon - they've all been from a department store or something like that and were purchased fairly close to the wedding.

I don’t think it’s necessary. For my son’s wedding as well as for my daughter’s wedding I went and found my own dresses. I wouldn’t have wanted to shop with the other mother’s anyway.

My mom wanted to start shopping about a year before my wedding because she is picky and thought she'd have a hard time finding something. We just went this past January and she found a dress right away, so 11 months before my wedding. My FH's mom wanted to wait because she is in the process of a weight loss journey and was worried that if she got something now, it might not fit properly for our wedding in November. So she is waiting as long as possible and will probably just get something off a rack at a Macy's. My mom went to David's Bridal for hers. You don't have to book anything for them, they can pick their own attire out themselves. I asked both if they would like me to attend with them and my mom of course said yes, so we made a day out of it. I'm not sure what my FH's mom will want to do, she may just want to go on her own.

Thank you everyone for the advice! I’m just going to let them do them and go shopping. It’s easier on me and them lol.
