Michigan Honeymoon

Angelina, on November 3, 2021 at 1:33 PM Posted in Honeymoon 2 9

Hello, my fiancé and I just got engaged and are taking things slow mainly because we don't know for sure where we want to get married but also what we want to do for our honeymoon. We don't have a lot of money so I'm wondering what you ladies are doing if you're in or are coming to Michigan for your honeymoons? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated and congratulations to all of you ladies!!

Is there a specific area of Michigan that you're hoping to plan your honeymoon for? Or any specific activities that you were wanting to do? The UP has lots of beautiful places to visit: Pictured Rocks, Mackinac Island, Porcupine Mountains, Tahquamenon Falls and any of the other waterfalls, etc. West side of the state (Grand Haven, Holland, St Joseph, etc) has great beaches, hiking trails, etc. Grand Rapids is always fun to visit. Traverse City has wineries, beaches, good restaurants, touristy shops, etc. East side of the state has Detroit, Port Austin, etc. The entire state has great state park campgrounds if you're looking for camping for your honeymoon.

We're taking a drive (& ferry ride) to Mackinac Island for our mini-moon after our wedding. Lisa gave a ton of great options. If you're looking for beauty then you can't beat the UP, and a lot of the hotels/motels up there are cheaper if you don't mind them not being the latest and greatest. Is there anywhere in the state you guys haven't been that you can spend a weekend at?

We're very outdoorsy type people, we like hiking and fishing, camping and all sorts. And this is why we're not sure what to do. I personally have never been to Tahquamenon Falls, but he has. I've been to Mackinaw Island and St. Ignace once. We mostly go to Petoskey and East Jordan area where he grew up because I'm from Flint and there's squat to do in flint. And to be honest we're simple folks (old people stuck in young bodies). The little things make us happy and we enjoy them, so i don't think i really matters if it is big and glamourous or simplistic. We just don't have a ton of money to spend on our honeymoon and we wanna have a good time, we believe that's all that matters...having a good time with the one you love

Have you been to Marquette and Presque Isle park? We got engaged there and it's one of my favorite places. Plus there's a ton of hiking areas nearby.

No but I’ll definitely check it out and mention Marquette and Presque Isle to Paul (fiancé). Thank you.

For an outdoorsy honeymoon, you could book a camping trip at somewhere like St Ignace State Park campground (they have a few sites that are on the lake with a *beautiful* view of the Mackinac Bridge), and then do day trips to places in the area! The boat docks to Mackinac Island are right down the road from the campground, and you could spend a day on the island (or even spend a night or two on the island). You could also do a day trip to Tahquamenon Falls, and hike the trail in between the lower and upper falls (I think it's 8 miles round trip if I remember correctly). A little bit further away (but probably still doable for a day trip) is Kitch iti kipi. Sault Ste Marie is another place you could day trip, and visit the Soo Locks.

Porcupine Mountains is a perfect place for an adventurous honeymoon as well! They've got a few campgrounds in the area, and SO many miles of hiking trails!! If you go here, be sure to check out Lake Of The Clouds (which is part of a hiking trail too). Lots of opportunities for fishing, hiking, swimming, boating, camping, etc.

Depending on the season, the west coast is my favorite. (live in Holland) Grand Haven, Holland, Saugatuck, South Haven; cute little strip of touristy towns, with beaches, parks, flowers, restaurants and shops, etc.
