May or June date in Indiana?

Katie, on November 11, 2021 at 1:41 PM Posted in Indiana Planning 1 3

I'm located in Indiana and deciding between two dates for a summer 2023 wedding. Our options are May 6 or June 3 - I'm thinking early May might be a bit chilly in the evenings and early June may be hot for a 4:30 ceremony? I'm also thinking about the dahlia field that's included in our venue - I think they would be prettier bloom-wise in early June.

Help me decide!!!

I'm not familiar with Indiana, but how are bugs there? I imagine if you have black flies or mosquitos there might be a significant difference between early May and early June, and that would be worth considering as well.

We ended up having a Covid elopement followed by a wedding celebration the following year. Our elopement was May 30 in New Hampshire and we had nice weather and some bugs, but the following year, on June 12 we had perfect weather and no bugs at all. I love spring, but the bugs can be brutal, so I'd factor that in if you are having an outdoor ceremony or reception. Based on the dahlia timing in Indiana (and how dahlias sync with weather and bugs in areas I'm more familiar with), I think June 3 would be the better date.

Hi Katie! I'd take a look at sites like weatherspark and accuweather to help you decide!!

It looks like in early May the average high is around 70 degrees, with an average low of 50 degrees which is a bit chilly!

By June 3rd the averages have increased by 10 degrees (highs of 79 and lows of 60)!

Sometimes it rains in May and it’s muggy… if you’re having an outdoor wedding or picture sessions… bug spray is a must!! Nada
Also, if you’re dress is being altered…you’ll be overlapping with prom rush.
