Massachusetts Catering

Vanessa, on August 9, 2020 at 4:10 PM Posted in Massachusetts Planning 1 9

Hi! Are there any brides planning weddings in the Boston, MA or general Mass area? I'm currently struggling with catering... from the past couple quotes I received they were about $10 - 15k for 70 guests. Is this average or normal? Maybe I'm having some sticker shock, but would love to know what others have experienced so I know what to expect. (I reached out to Events by BH & Cuisine Chez Vous) Thank you!

Following! I’m in MA & I’m preparing to ask for quotes soon! Based on averages found online I’m anticipating about 15-20 for food & 5-7 for an open bar, but we’re also aiming for 150 guests. It looks like I may need to readjust my expectations though!

I'm still hoping to spend around $9k for food and drinks. I've reached back out to all vendors to see if they can work with that budget. I've noticed the service expenses are more than the actual food so I'm adjusting to buffet dinner, and stationary options for cocktail hour. Curious to see what they say!

I do have some information from Cuisine Chez Vous. For a plated meal & drink (beer & wine only), and china, bar glassware, table glassware, linens, napkins and kitchen equipment for 70 guests was $11,260.68.

Most of the places I’ve begun researching have something about keeping “within your budget,” so I hope they can work something out with you! I assume going to buffet & stationed cocktail hour will help.

I’ll let you know if I get any quotes in that range or from places that seem more reasonable, although I’m likely asking about plated and I have almost double the people.

We're working with Tastings Catering in Framingham originally for our November 2020 wedding, now for our November 2021 wedding. Our guest list is around 85-90 and we were quoted around 12k for food, and we're estimating an extra 3k for alcohol. I tend to over estimate so I'm never short. But that does seem to be the average. But also I cannot recommend Tastings enough, they are an amazing team who love what they do and work with you to ensure your day is everything you dreamed. We've had 2 tastings with them and will have another before the bigger wedding next year but I'd look into them if I were you!

I haven't reached out to them yet, but I definitely will! Glad they're being so accommodating during this crazy time. Smiley heart

Wanted to circle back around to this...my fiancé & I are trying to come to a decision in the next few weeks! We have a few "finalists," including Tastings & Gourmet. Tastings is definitely cheaper. I don't think my quotes will help you, as we're doing a plated dinner & a separate bar service, but so far we like our conversations with them both! How has it been going for you?

I've heard really good things about Tastings! I was looking into the Bonne Maison ($10k with wedding cake) & Events by BH ($9k no wedding cake) because they gave me a quote closest to my budget, but now we've actually decided to go with an all inclusive venue. It's made things a lot easier so we don't have to manage multiple vendors.

The Barn at Gibbet Hill had a great proposal! It included a planner & day of coordinator, plated dinner & open bar, wedding cake, all linen & table rentals, venue fee and anniversary dinner for $13k for 85 guests. We're looking into an off season & Sunday date, but it's the best value we've found so far Smiley smile

Very nice! I’m glad it’s working out! I’m doing a Friday, which is helping a bit with a few vendors, so I think non-Saturday and/or off-season are a great way to go. I’ve seen such beautiful photos of that venue, too!
