Married in Maryland! Marylanders, let's chat!

Who is getting married in Maryland??

Married in Maryland! Marylanders, let's chat! 1

I'm a Marylander through and through (why yes, I do have a MD flag crab decal on my car) so I want to chat about all things marriage in MD. I got engaged on the beach in Ocean City, was married in Baltimore, had mini crab cakes as one of my hors d'oeuvres, and gave out Old Bay as one of my favors. So tell us about your MD venues, the places around MD where you took your engagement photos, your Black Eyed Susan bouquets, the craft beers you chose for your reception, and your Berger cookie dessert displays! Show 'em off, hon!

We live in Chestertown, and are getting married on a small farm outside of Rock Hall (#easternshorepride). We're having a laid-back, all outdoor, rustic August wedding with yard games (think- cornhole), beer and a food truck!

Nice! Will you get a custom wedding cornhole set? What food truck will you have?

Welcome! Is your partner from MD, is that how you decided to get married here?

What kind of cool place are you interested in? Active, historic, relaxing...? Ellicott City has vintage-y shopping and nice restaurants. Downtown Baltimore has the harbor, a great aquarium, two stadiums, and lots of cool bars. Annapolis is awesome, it has pretty parks and waterfront and just overall has a cool vibe. Pennsylvania of course has Philly, which has great art museums and the Liberty Bell. Lancaster and Gettysburg are cool places to visit too.

Hello!! I'm not from MD either. Just moved here about 6 months ago with the FH. However, we're looking to get married here since it's going to be our new home and we're planning to settle down here for a while. Any suggestions for venues or vendors? We would love to do a MD themed (i.e crab eating fest) rehearsal dinner for all of our OOT guests (there are a lot of them). As far as wedding venue, we're looking for something with glamorous, ornate, castle-like features (we've only seen the Belvedere so far). Thanks in advance!

Thanks for inviting me to this forum! I love MD, have been here for a while and can't see myself moving to another state! We got engaged the day after Christmas (in NYC not MD) but we will be getting married in Fullerton, then reception in Cockeysville.

Well welcome to MD! I'm totally biased but I think it is the best state Smiley smile

Crab feast rehearsal dinner sounds amazing! What a good way to introduce your families to all things MD. As far as glam castle-like venues I'm thinking The Cloisters (Will Smith got married there), The Engineers Club, The Peabody Library, The BMA (Baltimore Museum of Art), and the Evergreen house (the carriage house and gardens are amazing) all pop into my mind right away.

I've lived in MD my whole life and I think it's awesome. FH has lived like everywhere, but also really loves MD. We got engaged in his old hometown in WA. We're getting married at The Grand in Baltimore and making Baltimore-themed welcome bags for those who used our hotel room block.

Hi, Fellow Marylanders (and friends of Maryland)!

My FH and I are both native Marylanders and have lived around Annapolis for most of our lives. He even works for the State and we dressed as Natty Boh and Sally the Utz Girl for Halloween last year. Although our formal proposal was at a mountain resort in West Virginia, all of our history and our hearts are here in the Free State. We are having our ceremony and reception in August at the little community beach on the South River (south of Annapolis) in the neighborhood where we both spent much of our childhoods.

Of course we wanted to incorporate our love of the state into our wedding theme, and chose black-eyed susans are our featured wedding flower. However, has any of you noticed that there are hardly any pictures of black-eyed susan bouquets on Pinterest - or anywhere else, for that matter? There are plenty of sunflower bouquets, but only a few with the actual state flower. My florist even said she has seldom gotten requests for black-eyed susan bouquets, and she's been doing weddings in Maryland for over 20 years! I think that is so strange. They're a lovely flower!

As for recommendations for honeymoon and/or wedding venues, come to Annapolis! There are lots of options here, as Jo mentioned - parks, waterfront, and beautiful historic buildings and gardens. And so many things to do for honeymoon exploring. We're spending our wedding night at an Annapolis waterfront hotel (hoping to have a pedicab ride in my wedding dress!) before heading to the Outer Banks for the rest of our honeymoon.

Best wishes to all of you. Looking forward to sharing our Maryland wedding journeys!

Absolutely the Cloisters has to be your next stop, it is absolutely what you're looking for as far as castles go. We are in Howard County, so getting married in Elkridge, then, we are trying to decide between a reception lo cation of savage mill manor house or overhills mansion. We are doing tastings, hoping that will help with final decision.
