My fiance had I live in FL but are getting married in VA on October 23...what do we need to do as far as getting our marriage license? How long of a trip do we need to make to VA? How far in advance? Do we both need to make the trip?

Depends on what county you are getting married in. You’ll have to get a license from the specific county your wedding is being held. Research online Marriage License ______ County Virginia. You will both probably need to make the trip.

Hi Emily! You will definitely both need to apply in person (together), and like AJ said - you'll need to check the rules for the county in which you'll be getting married.

In Virginia you can apply for a marriage license through any circuit court. There's no waiting period and the license is valid for 60 days!

I also got married out of state, so we just headed down to NC a few days before the wedding and applied then!

I live in Appomattox, Va. we went to our county’s circuit court and filed together in person. All we needed was our drivers license. Since you’re living out of state, you might need other things. Just call the county’s circuit court and they will tell you!
