Marriage license misshap

Liz, on July 24, 2020 at 8:43 PM Posted in Oregon Planning 0 4
In the Oregon county that we got married in, we are technically supposed to send in the signed marriage license within 5 days of the ceremony. We had a little misshap and will end up sending in the license a couple days late. Will we still be recorded as legally married? Or was the 5 days just a guideline?

Considering it's a legal document, take the 5 days to be strictly enforced. You have to contact the office it was sent to to find out what to do.

Contact the county clerk, it may now be invalid.

It depends on the state. We mailed ours in (TN) a month or so late and we’re fine. When we got our marriage license they told us people forget to mail them all the time and it’s not a big deal.

Fingers crossed that it will be totally fine! 🤞

I'd definitely call the county clerk as well to let them know it's in transit and on the way to see if they can internally approve a deadline extension or have some covid leeway!
