Makeup Skin Types

I've done photoshoots before and been on movie/TV sets where I needed makeup but I had never been asked if my skin was dry or oily. When I did my trial recently, the artist asked which one I had. I told her I literally had no idea and was like maybe dry, I don't know. I The makeup seemed fine.

I used her again a few days later for headshots, assuming I had dry skin. My forehead came out almost as bright as E.T.'s finger 😒. Luckily he had only taken a few. I'd really hate for this to happen on my wedding day!
So how do you tell whether you have dry or oily skin to determine what kind of makeup to use??
