Make up artists in Puerto Rico

Jasandmonte, on September 26, 2021 at 8:02 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 2 7

Hi, I'm getting married in San Juan, PR next May and I'm currently having a hard time finding Black/Afro-Puerto Rican makeup artists AND/OR makeup artists that have good examples of their black/brown clientele. So far I've found 0 Black/Afro-Puerto Rican makeup artists and I've only seen a few MUAs that have 1 or 2 pictures...nothing to really see their previous work.

I really want to make sure my bridesmaids look and feel their best that day. Anyone with any tips or suggestions?? I'm going to ask my planner too but I figured I'd ask around too!

Side note: The only reason I haven't considered doing it myself or just having everyone do their own makeup is because I don't normally *do* makeup lol and I would like some consistency (for the sake of photos.....and per mom's request lol)

Join and look on social media pages related to destination weddings in PR. You may be able to find some vendor information there that is helpful. Also although not ideal, you may want to consider bringing a MUA with you. It could be pricey (paying for flight, room and perhaps per diem), but at least you’d have the skill and consistency you are looking for. Good luck in your search!

Have you tried using the "black-owned businesses" filter in the WeddingWire vendor search? I'd check out those companies first:

    Hi Jas,

I would similarly suggest you bring a local makeup artist, one that you’re comfortable and confident with. One who will be able to execute your vision on your day. Those pictures are forever and your makeup will set the tone for the entire day. Worth the money in this case. She is also on Wedding Wire.

Here is one I would suggest. Black owned Makeup Services

I had a similar issue. I reached out to a MUA and asked about her African American clientele (and working with darker skin tones) and she was able to show me more pictures. Maybe try reaching out to some of the listed MUA and asking for more pictures.

Hi! I got married in PR last month & found myself in the same situation I used:

Loved my makeup and she was very sweet & professional!
Here is another MUA who I looked at as well:https://www.instagram.com/melinamua/?utm_medium=copy_link

She actually did my friend’s makeup who attended my wedding. Hope this helps if you haven’t found someone already!
