Maine October Wedding-covid

Monica, on June 22, 2020 at 8:02 PM Posted in Maine Planning 0 4
Hey everyone! I am hoping to hear from other couples who are getting married in Maine, or potentially other states that have been slower to open up, to see if you have postponed your fall wedding yet? Maine is currently only allowing 50 people gatherings through August, and have not yet said what that number may change to after that. My fiance and I are trying to stay hopeful but it is so tough not knowing, and our venue currently only has 4 dates left in 2021. We have been engaged since January 2018 and are definitely not interested in waiting until 2022, but also really have our heats set on (and thousands of dollars put down on) a larger wedding. When has everyone else decided to officially make the call on postponing?

I'm in Massachusetts and in August, so we're not in the exact same place, but I think Maine and Massachusetts have been reopening similarly. I'm pretty sure in MA and RI, outdoor weddings of up to 100/150 will be allowed in August and slightly lower numbers inside (at least in RI). So based on that, I would think you'd be okay in October if you don't have a huge wedding, but there's obviously no guarantee that things will stay on a good trajectory. We postponed our big celebration to 2021 but we're having a small ceremony/reception on our original date because we didn't want to wait or lose the money we had already spent, but we also didn't want to start the next wave of covid.

Hi! I’m in Massachusetts so not too far from you but we’re going VERY slow here. I have already postponed my June wedding to August and I am waiting for the venue to actually cancel me at this point. I don’t want to reschedule it again but the not knowing is killing me. We have waited 2.5 years for our wedding day, and our governor has given basically no updates on weddings or capacity etc. if we can’t dance and have to wear a mask I have a back up date for next June. Can your venue temporarily hold a 2021 date for you until you decide? Best of luck!!

Not a Maine bride, but we were invited to a Maine wedding in August.

Maine has a 2-week quarantine for people coming from out of state. This is untenable for anyone visiting, and has decimated the tourism industry (as I'm sure you are aware!). As a result, the wedding we were invited to was moved (geographically...it's still happening in August). It's possible that requirement will be lifted before October...but if I was in your shoes, I'd probably move it if you have people coming from out of state.
