Looking for a reception spot

Tammy, on June 2, 2019 at 9:29 AM Posted in South Carolina Planning 0 12
I am having a hard time finding a reception spot for our beach wedding in Charleston SC. The only beach around is Folly beach & that is about 10 miles from Charleston. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Tammy! Congratulations on your engagement! It’s great to have you join the WeddingWire community!!

A beach wedding sounds absolutely beautiful, do you live near the beach normally?

Have you had the chance to browse the WeddingWire venue search tool? It might offer some venue suggestions that you haven’t thought of yet. I’ve linked you to Charleston Beach Wedding Venues. Are you hoping to hold your ceremony on the beach?

Yes we are. We can actually get married on the beach for free. I have my own bouquet, Officiant, cake and photographer. I am just looking for a small venue for 25 people to have a reception. Most of the places I see say you have to buy their food. I want to have the food of my choice catered in. So I am having a hard time finding a place.

Since your guest list is quite small, perhaps you could look into Airbnb's in the area that allows guests to host events. You would be able to hire in your own caterer and other vendors as you need them.

If you decide to browse some options, make sure your click 'Suitable for events' in the filters!

Folly is not the only beach around. There's also Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island. Just outside of Sullivan's (before crossing the bridge onto the island) there is a great, little spot called Gold Bug Island and there is a clubhouse you can rent for a reception there. You could get married on the beach on Sullivan's Island and it wouldn't be a far drive to Gold Bug for the reception. It's also one of the cheapest places to rent in Charleston.

The clubhouse is currently not rented for October 10, 2020 if you're interested in looking into this option. Here is the website: http://destinationgoldbug.com

I looked at it & it cost alot more than I can afford to spend. Thank you for the information though. I really appreciate it.

Folly Beach is in Charleston. Where us your wedding? There is also Edisto Beach (which I personally like better than Folly, but that's just me).
Im a Charleston local and native.

    Hi Jessica!
Congrats on the engagement. I love Charleston, SC and I too plan to get married in Charleston or Hilton Head Island. However, an area that I was looking at is Isle of Palm. The beach there is gorgeous and is a little less crowded.
