Let's Talk Cake!

Pirate & 60s Bride, on June 6, 2020 at 4:55 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 59

Maybe because I'm hungry, but let's talk cake! What flavors of cake will you/did you have (if you're having cake or cupcakes)? Feel free to post pics of your cake, cake tasting or tasty inspiration.

To fit our 50's/60's reception theme, we wanted a traditional vanilla cake. At our tasting, we loved two layers chocolate Bavarian creme and one layer baked spiced apples. It was a hit at our reception!

Our dessert table. Because our venue included 3 dessert shots, we just bought a one-tier cake.

Your dessert table looks super cute! We'll have a 3 tier cake (I think), but we haven't picked a flavor yet. Our package also comes with a dessert table with apple crisps, pumpkin tarts, cookies, brownies, lemon bars, whoopie pies, red velvet / Boston creme pie shooters, and mini fruit cheesecakes. But the package is really flexible, so we're thinking of having a smaller dessert table and adding in a creme brûlée station because it's my and my mom's absolute favorite dessert!

I would love to talk cake lol. We had two cakes: our 3 tier was pink champagne with salted caramel, white chocolate with chocolate filling, vanilla with vanilla. 2 tier was chocolate with ganache and chocolate with cookies and cream with a crushed Oreo topping. Our cake knife was engraved from my dad and stepmom’s wedding in 1999. My stepmom made little cake boxes for guests to take extra slices home. Let's Talk Cake! 4

Thank you! It's a big package, really. I'm also going to order an extra groom's cake to surprise my partner, but I still have to figure that out, lol.

Which flavor combo was the favorite do you think? You had me at pink champagne cake with salted caramel. 😋 What a fantastic cake-cutting pic! I don’t remember seeing that one of yours. Thanks for sharing it.

Omg I don’t even know I saw people will all different flavors. I loved them all, my baker was wonderful. I wish I lived around there so I could order from her for birthdays. I think my faves were the pink/salted and the white chocolate. But they were all delicious. And yes my photographer was amazing. This is one of my favorite shots from the whole day.

I’m getting married in New Orleans where their standard wedding cake flavor is almond. I hadn’t heard of that flavor before I started wedding planning, but I’ve since fallen in love with that flavor with almond or vanilla buttercream icing. Yum!!!

Thank you! Did people like the shooters or the cake more at your wedding?

FH is pretty dang picky so we're probably going to go with marble to play it safe. We did end up liking a strawberry from a previous vendor in California so we'll look into that option to see if we like any of them out here in Las Vegas. Our dessert table will consist of assorted cookies, brownies, lemon bars and macarons.

We had vanilla cake with vanilla icing. We wanted something simple and I don't like chocolate cake. My husband loved the strawberry but sadly I'm allergic to strawberries. Below is what my wedding cake looked like.

We had a 2 tier cake. One was cinnamon brown sugar with cinnamon sugar buttercream frosting, and the other tier was vanilla and fresh strawberry with vanilla buttercream (for the more traditional cake eaters 🤣). We also had a dessert bar full of other goodies!

I love how your cake flavor fits your location! I didn’t know that about New Orleans. I’ve never had almond cake but it sounds delicious.

Marble cake is yummy because it has chocolate but it’s not death by chocolate. 😆
