Large indoor wedding nyc vaccine mandate

J, on August 20, 2021 at 1:32 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 10
Is anyone getting married in NYC in the fall of 2021? I wasn’t getting answers from my wedding coordinator and I’m expecting a call from the owner today. I was supposed to have an indoor reception with 150 guests. I cannot meet the minimum as half of the people on my guest list are not vaccinated and I do not want to put people in an uncomfortable situation. I also do not want to pay for empty seats or wait years before new variants stop coming. Are there any brides out there with the same concerns? Also, what answers or options has your venue given you?

Are you saying your contract is for 150 people but you won’t be able to meet that number?
What are you going to ask your venue, like do you want to cancel your wedding?

Yes, my contract is for 150 people and I probably won’t be able to meet that number because half are not and do not want the vaccine. I would like to postpone but until when? No one knows if the vaccine mandate will be reversed. Maybe I can have a reception in another state. Why should they hold my money indefinitely? I may not be able to get out of the contract because this is not the venues fault. I really am at a loss, and deflated.

I think you should let your guests decide for themselves. They may be fine attending with this is who aren’t vaccinated.

Maybe require a negative covid test for those who arent vaccinated?

Hi, I’m having the reception in NYC where they want to see a vaccination card along with I.D. now. The mayor is basically forcing people to comply if they want to dine out, go to shows, venues, etc. A covid test isn’t even an option. Totally tyrannical

Wow, I just got married a couple weeks ago on Long Island and it’s so much more relaxed there. Our mayor is literally drunk with power. Everyone isn’t even to get the vaccine because of medical conditions and I don’t think people should be forced to take the vaccine.

This is such a terrible situation that you’ve been put in.

Yeah I don’t think that you’d be able to get out of your contract, or if you cancel you might lose your deposit/however much money you’ve paid already. It’s basically like not having enough people rsvp yes, even if the reason they didn’t rsvp yes is because they won’t get vaccinated.
Are people not allowed to test negative a few days before the event instead of being vaccinated?

Congratulations and luckily for you it was before they start enforcing the mandate by fining the venues beginning 9/13. I live in jersey but I’m sure they’ll be next. My wedding is in November and I can’t be left in limbo. I too believe it should be a choice. I doubt I’ll get my money back because this isn’t the venues fault but as you can imagine this isn’t a good feeling. Everything from hair, makeup, dj, flowers, photog have been booked so I’m not in a good position and don’t even get me started with the mayor and the mess he has made of the city

Thanks for your feedback. I figured as much but am surprised more brides getting married in the fall in nyc aren’t talking about this on here. The full amount has been paid so we can’t walk away. Per the mayors mandate a negative test won’t suffice. He’s basically forcing people if they “want to live a full and healthy life” as he put it. So if you don’t get vaccinated you can’t go out to eat, no indoor venues, shows, etc.

Reminder to keep politics out of the discussions, please and thank you.

The vaccine mandate is to keep everyone safe, particularly those who cannot yet get vaxxed, and to protect, say, performers, who cannot wear a mask.

We know what happens with an aerosol virus when people are indoors.

That said, reach out to your venue again, call them until they call you back. Get their rules straight from them.
