Lake George mini moon?

Futuremrs, on June 9, 2019 at 10:53 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12
So I had previously asked for some help regarding a mini moon in Niagara Falls, but after getting clarification from my FH, it looks like we'll be going to Lake George. It's much closer and seems more laid back. Although, every time we discuss it, he starts throwing out suggestions of other locales "just for ideas." I think he's trying to see if he can make my brain explode! I keep telling him to pick a place and stick with it, so I can find somewhere to stay.

Anyway. Has anyone on here spent time in Lake George? What are some good things to do there? Good places to eat? To stay? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Me and FH went camping in Lake George last summer. We were camping in a tent but we drove past a bunch of nice looking cabin places to stay. The town itself is nice. Lots of souviner shops and arcades. There's boat tours around the lake you can take.

LOVE! Lake George. We go there every summer. The beaches are nice, you can do boat tours, I believe some are sunset dinner tours. There's a lot of good places to eat in the village and just outside. We usually camp when we are up there but there are a lot of hotels and cabins in the area.

Lake George looked gorgeous! Perfect for a mini-moon!

There are some gorgeous cabins on Airbnb in the area Smiley love

As Jessica mentioned, the boat tours look like fun! There is a steamboat you can ride also I believe!

I hope you can get your FH to stick to one destination and he doesn't change it on you again Smiley xd

Lake George is one of my favorites! Beautiful natural lake that is 32 miles long! Not sure where you are staying but there are chain hotels and motels right in the 'village'. The village is the small center of town. Everything is then walkable from the village based hotels/motels. If you will have a car, then you can go a little further outside of the village on the West side along the lake. There you will find a whole bunch of motels, and cabins, mostly rustic (you are in the Adirondack Mountains so that is the theme). If you have some $$ to spend, the most luxurious spot is The Sagamore Hotel - absolutely fabulous, right on the lake - outstanding. You have to be willing to spend though, cause summer is the prime season there. If you can't afford to stay there, then I would suggest a nice dinner there some evening. Outside guests are welcome at there restaurants (I think there are 4) and bars - just make sure you make a reservation ahead of time.

What is there to do? There is lots of walking, hiking, camping, etc. in the Adirondacks. Prospect Mtn is right there and if you don't want to hike it, you can drive your car up there. Beautiful on top and a nice morning or afternoon activity. The lake is gorgeous and clean! Go for swim in 2 beaches in the village (one free, the other is like $5 for the day). They have great boat rides that will take you anywhere from a 1 hour ride (the Minnehaha - steam/paddleboat) up to like 6 hours which does the whole length of the lake and back. They are all a really nice way to see the lake, and you see a lot more than driving around the lake if you are on a boat. They have jet ski rentals, parasailing, etc. - all typical tourist lake activities. The have revolutionary museums if either of you are history buffs - Lake George was a big spot in the Revolutionary War spot!

I could go on, but bottom line it is a beautiful area if you like lakes, mountains and scenery! Hope this helps. Enjoy it!!

We rented a cabin. One of the little ones. It doesn't have much, but the place has great reviews. We also already reserved seats on one of the dinner cruises.

Thanks for all the input Lisa! We did look at the Sagamore, but it was more expensive than I wanted to spend. We have a rustic cabin, but I'm actually looking forward to it. We don't have to worry about sharing a wall with noisy neighbors. Or being the noisy neighbors. The privacy is what sold us on the private cabin. We have dinner reservations on the Minnehaha (I think) for our first night. But maybe we'll do as you suggested and have dinner at the Sagamore the second night. We (me more than him) are history buffs and plan to go to the fort one day while we're there and then maybe the Adirondack winery that is apparently near by. We just want to relax and have some adult time without my fsd. ( He's a widower, so we don't get much alone time before 8pm) Everything you mentioned sounds perfect. Thanks for all the input. I feel better about our choice in going to Lake George!

I'm so glad I could help! I have stayed in a cabin as well, and it is just like you said, lots of privacy and that is just what you want for a few days after your wedding. I agree on staying at the Sagamore, beautiful but very expensive, that is why we opt to just go for dinner. You'll love the Minnehaha! All the boat rides are great. So happy for you! All the best to you on your wedding day and your Lake George mini moon. You made a great choice!

Thank you for your positive enthusiasm! It helps confirming our choice. If you don't mind, which cabin place did you stay at?

Unfortunately they are not there anymore. used to be called Bluebird Cottages in Bolton Landing, which is on the west side of the lake, the town just north of Lake George Village. Very cute.
