KWR: Royal Caribbean Photo Packages

CountingDowntoMrs, on August 10, 2017 at 11:58 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 17

We're going on a week-long cruise for our honeymoon on Royal Caribbean. (Yay!!! Is it time for this part yet?)

I am debating if we should buy a photo package of any sort or not.

There's an option for the digital rights to 20 images for $199.99, which is supposedly 20% less than the onboard price.

Or, you can get all photos for $249.99, also supposedly 20% off onboard price.

FH and I did not do engagements, so we don't have any formal photos together.

We are going to do a session early next year with FH's daughter, but we "won" that at a charity auction so it's already paid for and will include all 3 of us.

These prices just seem so high, but if this is something worth doing, I'd rather pay now to save the 20%.

Or, will they have different deals onboard the ship? I've sailed RC, but cannot remember!

We aren't paying for the photos, I'd love to but I feel like it's super expensive.

I personally was never a fan of cruise and/or vacation photos. I think they're a rip off (and that's coming from a photographer, haha). I'd wait until you get home and maybe do a couple's session with a photographer in your area, or even wait and do it as an anniversary shoot. You can take your own photos while on vacation/on the cruise. I just feel like cruise/vacation spot photos are those cheesy "smile while you enter the park and we'll take your picture" photos... Not my style.

    Good points, @Rachel L.

So a follow up, does anyone have any cruise photos they actually like?

I bought 1 from formal night but now it just sits in a drawer somewhere. I agree with hiring a private photographer.

We bought them once, but I honestly don't even know where they are at this point. I'd rather display our actual wedding photos.

We never get the photo package. How many prom-pose pics do we really need? We did purchase a group picture a few years ago on a cruise, but never the package.

You could probably do actual Epics for that price. I wouldnt go for it. However I do believe that their prices are accurate there, as cruise photos are stupid expensive.

So I think we will pass.

Even if we buy a few, that's going to be a lot cheaper.

    Thanks, all!

We got engaged on a RC cruise! I never buy the photo packages - if I buy any photos, it is usually a few and not worth a package. I think we bought 5 since we took some on the boat after getting engaged but take your own photos and save the money Smiley smile buy a few if you love them - no need for 20!

We got engaged on a cruise (Carnival though) and as you can see in my Avatar he proposed while we were getting pictures done. I bought the pictures obviously because the price point didn't matter to have a memory of the moment. Carnival is more expensive though (we paid $22 per picture and bought 10 to be able to get the electronic copies). I was surprised on how much we really liked the pictures (although I think the price was astronomical and I would have never paid that if it wasn't for having pictures as he proposed). We are actually getting married on a Carnival cruise (but in the port of Key West). I am still undecided if I want to get pictures done around the ship because I know it is going to be an arm and a leg. I know Carnival will do pictures in port also (so that you are on the beach and don't have the cheesy backdrops) so I don't know if that is offered on Royal Caribbean or not but you can look into that. I attached one of my favorite pics from our cruise.

I think cruise pictures are usually super cheesy and stiff. They place in you in front of a photo backdrop and it's just so meh. Usually cruise ships are decorated super gaudy too... Not my thing. I'd rather take the $200 and buy a go pro to get some fun shots/video during the excursions.

Are we talking like studio time session? I personally do not think they are worth it. Very expensive.

Nothing beats natural settings, natural lighting and casual, calm settings.

We are also doing a RC cruise for our honeymoon. We are not going to get a package, if we like a picture we'll buy one but I don't think the package is really reasonable.

We also got pics from carnival but we did a bigger package. No cheesy backdrops, we were taken to different parts of the ship for our shoot, we got all the edited pics on a thumb drive and the printed pics as well. We had a book made with our favorite pics and a large canvas and a metal print. The picture is of the metal print. Cruises are quite expensive, but photographers in general are, we paid $1500 (we weren't even engaged yet smh lol, but he did buy the ring on the cruise)

    Hey date twin!

FH and I are going on an RC cruise for our Honeymoon too. We decided to skip the photo package and opt to do the shore excursions we really wanted. I personally would look at doing professional ones at home. Maybe in a place you both love?

I would 100% pass on the cruise photos. Maybe see if you can find a photographer at one of your ports? There are plenty of photographers who are familiar with local beaches and other great places to take pictures. You've got plenty of time to find someone!!
