Keto Wedding Dress Weightloss!

Kellie Martinez, on May 28, 2019 at 4:55 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 23

Hi guys! I am really excited and motivated to continue on my keto diet. I posted months ago about how down and depressed I was about my weight. I explained that I purchased a size 22 dress and ordered a size 20 to motivate myself to begin losing weight, I had bad grave's disease at 17, had my thyroid removed, and gained 100 pounds in the span of 3 years. I am 5'8 and was pushing 250 pounds. I started an on and off healthy lifestyle when I saw that number on the scale the day I bought my wedding dress. I wanted to cancel the whole event. I know how dramatic that sounds but I was so disappointed in myself for letting it get so out of control. The initial 30 pounds were expected but the continued unhealthy eating my metabolism used to allow was all me and I gained that last 70 on my own. After beginning the on/off change in november, I lost about 20 pounds, weighing in at 232.

3 weeks ago, my mom paid for me to start a 5 week keto / sugar detox with a nutritional therapy practioner. I started and after 1 week, I was at 226. By week 2, I was at 220. It's week 3 and I weigh 216 pounds.

216 doesn't seem like a great number, I realize but I have something I haven't felt in years.. hope.

I actually believe that I can do this. I believe that I will weigh 180 or less by my wedding and thinking about being significantly smaller by the big day makes me so happy.

I'm not an expert, I'm not a doctor; I am just an MA who found something that works for me. I just thought this might motivate woman who are beginning keto or a weightloss journey in general. You CAN accomplish your goals. You ARE capable of doing anything.

I'm typing this while I am wearing the size 14 work pants I purchased yesterday. (I was a size 20 in november.)

My ideal goal weight is about 160-170 then I can see where I want to go from there.

I hope this motivated someone.

Wish me luck because I am so excited to take the after picture of me in my wedding dress.

BTW i know the keto diet scares a LOT of people. It scared me too. I just wanted to say that I don't feel deprived. I have MORE energy, I eat 2 pieces of bacon with my breakfast every morning and a variety of different chicken /steak / hamburger recipes for lunch and dinner and I enjoy eating my yummy meals everyday. I have only actually worked out MAYBE 2 times a week since starting keto bc my school schedule was INSANE but I just passed all finals and will be working out 5 days a week at least all summer and plan on continuing to go at least 3-4 starting in august because I took a lighter workload next semester for my wedding.

Fantastic to hear Keto has worked well for you and really happy to hear that you’re feeling better, so important as you approach your big day! I was intrigued about Keto diet recently and started loosely following it to cut out carbs plus a great workout routine SWEAT with Kayla Itsines and so far it’s been awesome - I’ve felt really fantastic and while the focus for me has been toning up, it’s helping me make better food decisions and feel much stronger and motivated to workout regularly. Keep up the awesome work, I hope it continues to be a good experience for you!

That's awesome!! I've been trying to lose weight as well for my wedding, in the last 3 years I've had 2 c sections so losing the pregnancy weight has not been easy especially when with 2 toddlers running around lol, so far I've lost 15 pounds.

Lol I totally understand. I don't have children yet but I work long days and go to school so I'm super busy. I lose a lot more weight when i work out but sticking to keto has had me dropping pounds even when I don't workout.

You've made great progress! Try not to get discouraged! Stick with it. You'll be beautiful no matter what though.

As a diabetic, I try to follow the keto plan too. It doesn't always work but I totally feel you about the weight gain. My medication was changed and I gained 35 pounds last winter and I'm struggling to get it back of; even with keto. My main form of exercise is housework and yardwork. I work 10 hours/day in a medical office so there's a lot of sitting Smiley sad

I know a lot of people don't quite understand keto and have a pretty negative view of it but I think it's because they don't really understand. First, no you don't need sugar to survive. While carbs are a "necessary evil" most people do not need as many as they eat. And no you cannot live off bacon and cheese. Calories still count no matter what. That's the point of keto; it's really how most people should eat. Too many people still buy into that classic food pyramid, not realizing it is not based on modern lifestyles. Once upon a time people might have needed more grains and such because of the overly physical lives they had (think farmers, loggers, etc). What most people don't know is that too many carbs bogs down your body; making you feel sluggish and makes your body work harder to process it.

I talked to my doctor about it Keto and he said professionally, he couldn't recommend it since it hasn't been "Studied and all that good stuff". What he did say was "Off the record, go for it. I can't hurt to cut out sugar and too many carbs. Just watch the calories."

My endocrinologist used to run an obesity clinic with his partner before they moved to my city and he told me to cut out sugar first. It made a huge difference before I even started keto but keto is an amazing way to eat if you do it correctly. There's so many terms like "lazy keto" or "dirty keto" for people who do it incorrectly and people assume everyone is eating that way so they don't like the idea of it, lol. The nutritional therapy practitioner I see every week has a 5 week sugar detox program, during which she educates people about what we are eating vs what we should be eating, insulin resistance, etc. On top of being a nutritional therapy practitioner, she is a certified diabetes specialist so she has helped A LOT of people get off of medication.

While I don't have diabetes, they call PCOS the "cousin of diabetes" so I appreciate the information. My primary doctor tried prescribing me metformin but I wouldn't take it. After talking to the woman I referred to, I started taking berberine instead (a natural supplement) and feel wonderful.

I work for a hospital and they made me take classes and see a diabetes specialist every so often in addition to my regular doctor. I haven't had sugar in years to amount to anything. I'm going to check into that supplement! I take two types of insulin but I seem to process it with or without metformin. Endocrinologists are in short supply in my area. It'll be September before I can see one unless someone cancels. I feel like a train wreck most days. PCOS also seems to run in my family. Thanks for the info!

Just to do your research. Change up what you eat weekly so you don’t get bored. I make new recipes every week. I meal prep twice a week so my lunches and dinners are both pre-made and I don’t ever cheat because of that Smiley smile a lot of people do “dirty keto” and lose no weight or they don’t lose much. Just because something is keto friendly doesn’t mean we need a bunch of it haha. My friend gained a little bc she had a LOT of heavy cream in her coffee multiple times a day. While it was technically allowed, it has a lot of calories and that defeats the purpose lol.

Thanks for the tip. I'm starting to cut anything processed: sugars, meats, cheeses, etc. And I'm trying to eliminate anything white such as breads and rices. I try to stick to wraps if I can in lieu of breads in sandwiches.

This is really inspirational, thank you and congratulations on your weight loss! I just started keto myself and I’m having a hard time keeping on track I have to lose six inches from my waist in the next 3 months in order for my dress to fit comfortably. I’m a size 22 and ordered an 18 for the same reason, motivation to lose weight. Hopefully it works😬 cuz I’m not feeling the motivation yet.

    CONGRATS!!!!

I love KETO way of eating! I had decided to try it since I wasn't happy with how I was starting to look. I did that before we decided to get married. I have since been doing well on it and I can say this much to those who are fearful of it. Keto done right will not harm you. I was nervous and I wanted to show my dearly loved but heavily overweight parents that Keto would be great for them. They both have medical issues and my dad is diabetic with lots of other health issues. I went and had blood work done and while I have lost a grand total of 17 pounds (in 3 months) the inches and the other benefits are well worth it! I just started working out each morning to help tone up and give me something to do in the mornings before work.

I hope you reach your goal for the big day! Also, better start looking for a great person to do all those alterations your beautiful dress will be needing Smiley smile
