July wedding in Iowa

marjifarah, on June 6, 2019 at 5:40 PM Posted in Iowa Planning 0 5
So we wanted a June/October/September wedding, but then we found our dream venue and the price for those days were above our budget so we went for July 18th (off season) date. Now me and my fiancé are worried that July might be too hot and humid. The venue is on a hill so it might be couple degrees cooler, and only the ceremony would be outside, with no shade. I don't know if we should stick with our July date or change it to November, which then might be too cold!

I say this in the nicest way possible.... the absolute most miserable wedding I have ever been to was outdoors at 3pm in Iowa in July. I had a chiffon skirt on the dress I wore and it looked like I’d wet myself I had sweat so bad, I was sunburnt, it was supposed to be a formal wedding but all the guys took their jackets off and were soaked in sweat, my husband was in the wedding party and they were feeling woozy by the end of photos. The groom actually looks very flushed and not well in some of his wedding photos. Then it cooled off.... but we were eaten alive by bugs.

If you go this route, consider a 5/6 pm ceremony or providing sun umbrellas, and a plan for treating for mosquitos.

I don't think the mosquitos will be a problem, they spray for that. But the rest you just mentioned scares me!

    Hey Marjifarah!

How long do you expect your ceremony to be? If you don't think ti will be too long, then I imagine it will be ok. Perhaps you could have some cute 'wedding-y' umbrellas for guests to use to keep them out of the sun, and water available before and directly afterward so that everyone stays hydrated. Smiley laugh

Our wedding is in July as well. I am just planning on having a later ceremony and providing refreshments and ways to stay cool! We're also keeping our ceremony short and sweet.
