JAMAICA VS DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

FH & I are debating between these 2 destinations and I figured I'd bring it to WW to see some opinions on which you would choose!

We chose Dreams La Romana in the Dominican Republic. About an hour away from Punta Cana.

All inclusive but does allow children. However, they have separate buildings/restaurants/pools for adults only if you want to go that route. We chose to upgrade to adults only (honeymoon is first week of November so not a typical family vacation time anyway).

I have found the people to be so much nicer in Jamaica. I've been to both Jamaica and the DR twice. I would return to Jamaica again but not the DR.

@ellaenchanted I think this is very rude of you to say. You are judging ALL Dominicans based on a political government decision regarding immigration policies/decisions. It would be really disheartening if all the world judged us Americans for Trumps current war on Immigrants and his obsession with building a wall. Or how we have rejected Syrian refugees. But most importantly those who would judge us would be doing so incorrectly bc Americans (even those who voted for him) are not responsible for the decisions of the Trump Administration.

Further, because Haiti and DR share an island it is inevitable that there will always be issues, that date back to many years ago regarding rape, torture, and other land dispute issues that you probably know nothing about. So unless you understand the entire history you aren't entitled to give an alternate fact opinion. I bet the media doesn't tell you about all the financial aid and refugee that DR gave to Haiti after the earthquake. After all, they were the nearest people ready and able to help. Like brothers and sisters they fight but Dominicans arent heartless. Dominicans helped more than any aid the Red Cross collected and then didn't distribute. Dominicans opened the doors to complete strangers and entered contaminated areas just to help. In exchange of nothing. But at the end of the day, DR did have to take precautions and measures to prevent crime, over population, and deadly diseases, as do ALL nations. Thats just a political decision that needs to be made.

I could sit here and say Jamaicans "willingly deny their origins" too given the huge amount of their population that bleaches their skin. But I wont because I cant judge an entire nation for the decisions of certain individuals. If Jamaica were to share its Island, I bet there would be stories about how horribly they treat their neighbors too bc thats what happens when 2 or more groups share land.

In any event, to answer OPs question. Ive been to both Jamaica and DR. My family is from DR. Jamaica is absolutely beautiful, the people are friendly, music and culture are so dope. The beaches are beautiful. Many hotels are all inclusive. They have activities on site. Overall a pleasant experience. Similarly, DR is super fun. There are many excursions. Hands down one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The music is good. The food is amazing. I actually think both are pretty similar from the moment I stepped off the plan I felt home. I do however think that the hotels in DR are more modern. For instance the last one I stayed in Lifestyle VIP has 12 beaches 7 pools tons of restaurants, bar on each corner, cabanas, spas, a water park couple minutes away. Literally its a celebrity vacation. But frankly either will make a great, fun filled and inexpensive honeymoon.

@ellaenchanted I commend the way you responded. 100% adult. Thank you. Yea I get it the Dominican Govt is very corrupted. But the people are pure. And I love Jamaica. I swear I was Jamaican in my past life. Good vibes & happy planning.
