Italy honeymoon?

We just booked our honeymoon in Italy for September! We got quotes from travel agents but for us it was a lot more than we can spend. We are staying for 10 days, 6 days in Rome and we booked an Airbnb and 4 days in Praiano (Amalfi Coast) at a hotel.

There are a couple threads on here about honeymooning in Italy, you might want to search those out. My husband and I honeymooned thought Italy in October. It was beautiful. We flew into Venice and then took the train to get from city to city. We flew out of Rome. We stayed mostly in AirBnBs. We did all the research and booking ourselves because we are particular and didn’t want to spend extra to hire a travel agent to do it.


In 10 days you could probably spend good time in 2-3 cities. Rome and Florence tend be favorites of the ladies on WW. After that there’s a wide variety of places people will recommend.

Currently planning a honeymoon in Italy for late Sept/early October! I think you can do it on your own. Traveling between cities by train is a breeze and you can figure out if you want to do the hotel route or Airbnb route. I have done some online research at TripAdvisor and Rick Steves forums where people give advice on itineraries, and I also went to the library to pick out some travel books on Italy and more specific ones on each city/area you are interested in. I think the biggest piece of advice I have taken is that you should really think about how often you want to be moving from city to city because it will involve a half day of travel by train including the time checking out of hotels, getting to the train station, checking into new hotel, etc. So, a "day" in a city isn't always accurate when you will likely get there later afternoon. You may want to think about staying in a couple major cities for a longer period of time and then take day trips out to nearby places. It's so hard to not hit all the highlights but you have to balance that with how often you are willing to be on the move.

When I went, I ended up flying to Italy and taking a MSC cruise that went to Italy, Spain, and a France. It’s a nice time because it’s a kind of set itinerary and your food is included on the ship.

We are currently planning our honeymoon in Italy in late Sept/early October. It was cheapest for us to go late September so we will be there 9/27-10/18.


Bed and Breakfasts are muchhhh cheaper than hotels. But I would recommend making sure your room has a kitchen/kitchenette so if you don’t want to go out to eat, you can go to a local market to buy food to cook! There is so much to do in Rome and Florence. Haven’t found much in Venice yet but I’m looking.
Cinque Terre is also beautiful for a day trip. Pompeii as well!

Also I definitely recommend going to library and checking out books on Italy and specific cities you want to go as PP stayed!! I do this for every trip I plan. It helps tremendously as well as TripAdvisor!

We just booked through a travel agent for September/October. Staying in Rome then Tuscany/Florence. There is no fee to book with them and they were able to put together a trip that would've taken us forever to put together. Our travel agent also booked some amazing villas for us to stay in that we would've never found ourselves. I def suggest meeting with one. Plus it takes off the stress of having to plan a honeymoon after had just planned an entire wedding.

We went to a local agent and he booked through Avanti Destinations. We went in to talk to him one weekend, told him our vision, and he took care of the rest. He picked out exactly what we wanted and we were able to make changes and tweak the itinerary before booking. Highly recommend.

We are planning a 2 week honeymoon to Italy in September on our own!

we're flying into Rome, staying the night, then 4 nights in Positano (found a cheap hotel because all were going to do is sleep) 1 day in Sorrento, Up to Florence for 3 days, 2 days at a farm/ vineyard stay and then back to rome for one night before flying back out. It was cheapest for us to fly in and out of Rome ($500 per person round trip including a 2 check bag and non stop flight out of Boston). We're using points for the two hotels in Rome for first and last day, so our Rooms total is about 2400$. It's definitely doable, as long as you have the energy to do a lot of research while also planning a wedding. Definitely look into credit card points or getting one with a good bonus if you can, as that has helped us tremendously!
