Italy and greece honeymoon

Shana, on October 22, 2018 at 6:13 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 10

Hey everyone,

My boyfriend and I are getting married in about 2 weeks but we are having our actual wedding next fall, so that is when we are planning on going on our honeymoon. We want to go to Italy and Greece, I am just curious for people that have gone or are going, how have you been planning? Are you using a travel agency or planning it yourself?

While it wasn’t our honeymoon, DH and I went to Italy last year. We planned it ourselves and had no problems - Italy is pretty easy to get around. Just be aware that some things (mostly galleries, the Colosseum, the Vatican) do need to be booked in advance.

We went to Italy and Greece for our honeymoon in May. We used a travel agent. Stayed 4 days in Venice and then an 8 night Mediterranean cruise thru Italy and Greece!

Hi Shana! Welcome to WeddingWire! I actually moved to Italy for 3 months last summer, and I highly reccomend using a travel agent! Not only did they help me get the most convenient flights, but helped me secure an apartment, and even booked my travelers insurance! I think it's really helpful to use a professional, especially for places you've never been to! Also, I highly reccomend going to Rome, Capri, Sorento, and Florence! Smiley smile

Hi! My family went to Italy and Greece 2 years ago and had an AMAZING time. The trip was two weeks: one in Italy and one on a cruise around the Greek Isles.

The Italy week was DIY, we spent time in Rome, Florence, Orvieto, and Venice, staying at AirBnBs. We used Viatour to book tours in some of the cities or we just had a sightseeing map and walked around.

As for the cruise, I can't recommend it enough for seeing as much of Greece as possible. It left out of Venice (sail-away was surreal honestly!). We went to Santorini, Mykonos, Corfu, and Olympia. All of which were beautiful in their own way. Different cruise lines will have different itineraries so shop around for which one suits y'all best (something a travel agent can help with as well) We also booked most tours through Viatour for Greece too.

As PPs have said, we can't recommend a travel agent enough. A good one will really help you with anything and everything from flights to places to stay to tours to travel insurance, and on cruises they can even get you some extra perks. Happy to answer any questions, happy honeymoon!

That actually sounds like what we would want to do. The cruise idea sounds like what most people have been choosing to do. Thank you for the information!

Awesome! Thank you so much. I think we will definitely have to go ahead and get a travel agent to assure we get to see what we want and don't miss out on anything we would regret we did not get to see. I really want to see Santorini in Greece. The AirBnBs is a really good idea. I am new to the whole traveling stuff, however, my boyfriend has much more experience with it so maybe I will pass the honeymoon planning on to him Smiley smile

Greece is the best! We went last year for our anniversary. I work in travel, so I was able to plan and get some good deals. There are lots of good options on Airbnb and Homeaway. We went to Athens and Mykonos. It's really easy to get to the islands from Athens on a small commuter airline, we flew Ryanair and our tickets were 20 euros, then we took the ferry back for about 30 euros. Mykonos is very easy to get around, and we were told Santorini is much the same way. They're fairly small islands and you'll be surprised how quickly you figure your way around if you stay for a few days. Also just as an FYI, if you are wanting beaches, Santorini isn't really known for that. That's ultimately why we chose Mykonos over Santorini because I wanted three days of lounging on a beach. We rented a quad, which is cheap and an easy way to get around. It's pretty easy to do on your own without an agent. Also, our Airbnb host was so helpful with restaurant and beach suggestions, plus he got the quad rental set up for us as well as pickingus up from the airport and took us to the ferry. We're more just the go and explore type, so if you want certain things set up, an agent could definitely help with that (or a really awesome host!)

Awesome. It seems that a lot of people have been using Airbnb as their way to find housing during their stay in Italy. That is good to know that it isn't hard to figure out how to get around the islands. Thank you for your help!
