Is It Tacky to Handwrite Invitations?

Erin, on November 18, 2019 at 5:44 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 19
We’re trying to keep costs down, and one of the ways we’re trying to do that is with invitations. I wanted to make cards like my grandmother used to (she was a landscape photographer). She was the only grandparent to have met my FH but she passed away shortly after. What she used to do is take a blank card, attach a picture she took to the front and use them for everything.

I wanted to do the same thing. I already have a nice camera. The question is, would it be tacky because I’d have to handwrite the invitation into the body of the card. We’re having a fairly small wedding (about 60 people) and I would only need about 30 cards (a lot of couples). The wedding itself is fairly casual.

I’m making mine by hand with rubber stamps and handwriting.

I don't think this is tacky - if I received a hand written invitation I would think its extra sweet and save it.

I don’t think it’s tacky as long as you still make it formal

I love this idea! It's such a great way to honor your grandmother. Same as PP, I'd be really happy to receive a handwritten invitation!

Ooh, rubber stamps that’s a good idea. I’d never see. Or received a handmade invitation so I was worried xD glad to see others are doing it too.

That’s good to hear. I was worried because I’d never seen or received a handwritten invitation so i wasn’t sure if it was “faux pas”

I will absolutely post the finished product Smiley smile. I probably won’t be able to go out and get the picture(s) until Spring or Summer so I’ve got some time to decide what I want to do. It’s a relief to see that it’s not such a weird or possibly frowned upon idea.

I got the idea to do it because I have a box of some of the last cards she ever made. I will never use them. But they’re beautiful.

I don’t think it’s tacky at all. It’s very nice to receive something that took time and thought into making. It’s very special to you as well and I think that it is a beautiful idea. As long as you have nicer legible writing you should be just fine! I would also print a couple extra in case you write a typo, don’t want to have any invites with crossed out words or white out! That would be tacky lol. Hope they turn out beautiful!

That's a good idea. I'm sure I would make some mistakes if I wasn't prepared xD.

Ohh this is a great idea!

OP, you can find stamps on Etsy for the entire wedding invite that way you can keep the font consistent across all invites.

Or you can handwrite them ( i just think that'd be more time consuming, greater risk for error). But by no means do i think it's tacky. I think it's a wonderful way to personalize it and your side of the family will notice the nod at your late grandmother Smiley heart
