Invitation timeline around holidays

Elycia, on October 20, 2022 at 4:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

My wedding is March 4th, 2023 and I am wondering when to send out my invitations with the normal timeline being so close to holiday season. I feel like before Thanksgiving is too early, but also after Jan 1 is too late as that puts me at just about 8 weeks prior to wedding. My venue needs final guest count 2 weeks in advance now due to supply chain issues--which I totally understand--but my husband's family is notoriously bad about RSVP-ing, so I want to make sure to give us plenty of time to reach out personally to them should we not receive responses. Our room block also closes a month before the wedding and want to give people ample time to book those rooms once they've received invites.

Would sending them out in between Thanksgiving and Christmas get lost in the shuffle of Christmas cards and other gifts? In your opinion would I experience any major mail delays doing so?

I have them essentially ready to print, but I'm having issues figuring this out given mail slow-downs and other holiday factors.

We sent out save the dates at the beginning of December and I don't think they got lost in the shuffle. Only one person mentioned that she didn't get hers after seeing her sisters hanging on the fridge. Turned out my mother-in-law gave me the wrong address. But I would think eight weeks is still plenty of time. For those that want to stay at the hotel thst gives them a month to plan. I know that ours closed a month in advance and we still sent ours out at 8 weeks.

The timeline for invitations is the same regardless of the time of year. 6-8 weeks before the wedding for domestic mail with rsvps due at 4 weeks before the wedding. 10-12 weeks before the wedding for international invitations.

Daughter and SIL's wedding was in mid-January and they sent invitations right before Thanksgiving (exactly 8 weeks prior). They had no problem with things getting lost in holiday mail. Their RSVP date was 12/26, about 2.5-3 weeks before the wedding -- their first numbers due to a vendor were due 2 weeks before the wedding. It worked out perfectly. On the RSVP date she only had 4 households that hadn't responded, and a couple of quick texts took care of those. I know it's exciting, but you are really just asking for headaches by sending too early. Guests will put it aside thinking, "that's not for months," and forget about it. Send them 6-8 weeks before the wedding.
