International Invitations

Chelsea, on April 29, 2021 at 10:53 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hi all!

One of my fiance's cousins lives in England. Due to Covid, we know they won't be attending but would still like to send them an invitation. Does anyone know around how long it takes for international mail to be be delivered? Everything from USPS seems very vague (unless I pay $67 to mail haha).

It'd be going from Virginia, USA, to Suffolk, UK.

Hi! My family lives in Canada and the Philippines. It took about 2 weeks for it to get to my Canada family, and I'm not sure if the Philippines have gotten theirs. I'd go to your local USPS and ask them in person what they think the ETA would be.

Thank you! Online says between 6-20 days, but I thought that was quite a varying gap haha. I'll have to stop by the Post Office anyway because I don't have any international stamps!

I have to admit, it was pretty cool to write the address out for United Kingdom, haha!

You're welcome! I will say that I completely forgot about international stamps and just put a forever stamp on them lol, but I haven't received any of the international STDs back yet!

Yeah it's pretty neat getting to see an oversees address on the envelope!

This may just be ok because the mail system in Ukraine is a hot mess (people literally just steal mailboxes for the metal 🤷‍♀️), but I just sent a picture of the invitation to my aunt in Ukraine through WhatsApp. That was my only international guest and sending stuff there is impossibly difficult. I gave her a hard copy as a keepsake when she came for the wedding.

Also from Virginia! My dad's family are in New Zealand and pre-COVID mail delivery took about 2 weeks (except around Christmas, then it was 4 weeks). I don't know how much of a delay COVID and the more recent changes in the USPS have effected mail delivery to England. My New Zealand family estimate international mail from the USA is taking an extra 1-2 weeks longer than it used to (3-4 weeks now).

I'm from New York and I sent a few to Sydney and Melbourne Australia, and it took exactly a month!

We have some international guests and we're just sending them their invites as a PDF via email. That way they'll get it in time, and be able to RSVP online and won't have to pay for international postage themselves to send back a reply card.

I sent out my Save the Dates last Friday via regular stamped mail and got a text from a Netherlands based friend this morning that she's received the card. Beat my expectation.

I'm also in VA and mailed an invitation to the UK! I took it to USPS on March 22nd and it arrived around April 7th, so about 16 days.

With the Global Forever stamp, I shipped from California and it took about a week to get to my family. If not sooner.

I just sent thank you cards from Texas to Germany. It took 9-11 days (the other direction usually takes 2-3 weeks). I used International forever stamps. I'd think the time to UK would be similar.

I think mailing to Chile is just a hot mess, but I mailed out my Christmas card to a friend in mid-December and she didn't get it until nearly February. It was pretty common when she was in the US for mail to take months to get back home.
