Illusion Neckline itchy - Help!

Andrea, on January 27, 2020 at 4:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 2

I think I'm starting to really freak out because I'm about a month away from our wedding. I even had a nightmare this weekend about my dress not being ready on time. My FH and co-workers think I'm overreacting, and maybe I am...but who knows.

To give you some context, I went into my second alterations appointment at the end of last week. The dress was too tight! To top it off, the back straps were loose too and bowing out so they need to fix those somehow. The seamstress told me that they recommend I wear double sided tape for my back straps, which is odd cause I've never had to wear that ever in my life. They are still fixing it cause I insisted I didn't want the straps bowing out and using tape. The hem and bustle were good, so everything on the lower half of the dress was great.

So now my dilemma (aside from being afraid that the dress won't be ready on time), as I was walking around testing out the length of the dress I started getting red from my illusion neckline. This is the same fabric for the back straps. This didn't happen to me when I tried on the dress the first time or during my first alterations. Perhaps its cause the dress is fitting closer to my skin? The seamstress recommended, again, double sided tape for the illusion neckline to help it...Again, what? Double sided tape solutions?

I did call just now to make sure the dress will be ready in 2 weeks, and they assured me picking up the dress 2 weeks before the wedding is typical...so I'm slowly controlling my anxiety here...

My question is, what did you guys do to help with any illusion neckline itchiness? I can't have another layer underneath cause it's see through. I'm afraid to use any type of oily, creams cause it's illusion/tulle. Wouldn't it just get this wet look if I put a cream on the edge of the dress? Do you have any experience with this and what did you do?

What about hairspray? It's clear and will dry and could create a little barrier between the mesh and your skin. And double sided tape could help (as suggested), as it might reduce friction by keeping the top from moving around too much as you're walking, bending, sitting, dancing, etc.

Hairspray? Does it work? I might try it when I go in to my final alterations to see if it works.
