Iceland/Greenland honeymoon ideas!?

Annie, on March 5, 2015 at 12:51 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 13

Has anyone honeymooned or plans to honeymoon in Iceland and cares to share ideas for romantic places to stay or things to do? We leave on the Sunday, arrive in Reykjavik on Monday morning, leave for Greenland (Ilulissat and Nuuk) from Thursday to Thursday, and then stay again in Reykjavik until the Sunday — two weeks total trip. My partner is set on going to the Blue Lagoon, but is there anything/anywhere else? So excited! Thanks!!! Smiley laugh

We are headed to Iceland in July! We are planning to do the "inside the volcano" tour, a few tours with the company Geoecco. On one of the tours we will be taking a drive through Vik along the south coast and then to the Glacier Lagoon ( look up photos, its amazing). We also will be doing an evening volcano hike with a 4x4 jeep adventure. Our third tour with this company is to Snæfellsnes and riding iceland horses. We also plan to rent a car for a day or two and drive the golden circle to hit the notable stops. Of course blue lagoon is also on our list for something not to miss. I have done hours upon hours of research, let me know if you want to chat more! We are staying in Reykjavik at the Hilton- if I could plan over again I would probably stay in an apartment or use airB&B but my fiance wanted to just have a nice home base at a hotel.

We did the white night hike with Goecco and loved it. As for the Blue Lagoon your best use of time is probably to do it on your way in or out of the country because it is right by the airport and a lot of transfer companies offer packages where they pick you up at your hotel and take you to the Blue Lagoon and then to the airport afterwards.

As for romantic places to stay I have had my eye on this place http://ioniceland.is/ can't vouch for it personally because we stayed within the city but I think it looks awesome.

I'm also kind of obsessed with this house on airbnb https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1186427?guests=4&s=Ic_j

FH's college friend just went. She went on a scuba diving adventure through the glaciers. I'm not sure who the tour was through, but from the pictures it looked like an amazing experience.

We're going to Iceland in September for our honeymoon Smiley smile I'm stealing some of these ideas ha ha. I found tours to be really expensive when I was looking (like $400+ CAD), so I'm curious to check out Geoecco.

We're also hoping to mostly do farm stays, or rent a 4x4 with www.campingcars.is They include roof tents and camping gear Smiley smile

Hi! We just came back from a week long trip to Iceland. We went to the Blue Lagoon which was nice BUT be warned that you have to book your tickets in advance. I also recommend only going to it during the daytime. We went at night and you really can't tell it's blue... It's not that lit up.

Also it's a bit more adventure-like but we did an ice cave/glacier walk tour along the south coast with Extreme Iceland which was really good, and another hike with GEOtours. Both were awesome. Haven't made it to Greenland yet, but I'm pretty sure we'll go there sometime Smiley smile

Also we just stayed in a Hostel but it was clean and reasonably priced and they have private rooms (shared bathroom). It was Hostel B47 and was close to the main shopping streets etc. Maybe not the best honeymoon hotel but I'd recommend it to anyone there for vacation.

FH would love to go to Iceland, his grandparents immigrated to Canada from Iceland. From what I've found its quite out of our budget. Where did you book your packages?

Most of the tours are incredibly expensive, but for the length of time they have you and the places you go and see I think it will be worth it. How many times can you say you went on a glacier hike, or inside of a dormant volcano.

The saving grace for us is that flights are relatively cheap. We can both fly direct to Iceland for cheaper than the cost of one plane ticket across Canada.

Ummmmm I just checked that Hostel site, it's showing that it's $1300 CAD per bed for 3 nights in a dorm with 8 other bunks (!!!!!!!!!) Then elsewhere it shows $427 for a private room with one bed for 3 nights (which is still ridic high for a freaking hostel) That cannot be right at alllllllll.

I had looked into different farm stays and other hotels in Reykjavik and they're around $100 per night.

The cheapest flights I could find were $1300/p (is that cheap, we hardly ever fly lol) where are you finding your flights. I'm in Winnipeg so it's from Winnipeg to Toronto to Reykjavik and return.

Direct Vancouver to Reykjavik is $900 return. We're going in September too, so it might be cheaper then.

ETA: It cost about $1300 to fly one person from here to Toronto, and about $2000 to get the rest of the way across Canada.

We got flights from Toronto to Reykjavik for $824 RT (after missing the cheaper flights a week prior that were $714 RT) with Icelandair for two weeks departing 31 May.

So exciting to see other couples with the same idea! I'll definitely be looking into some of the tours and accommodations you girls suggested. We've only got our flights, so next is figuring out what we're doing and where to stay.

Is renting a car for three days worth it? Anything you wish you knew or should've brought before your trip? Any food places to suggest checking out? (My partner and I mainly travel to eat.. haha) Smiley smile
