Husker football..

Alexa, on November 12, 2019 at 10:06 AM Posted in Nebraska Planning 0 1

As Nebraskans..a lot of us are probably Husker fans. I graduated from UNL with my fiance and don't get me wrong I love the Huskers..most of the time. I chose our date for the wedding to also work around my only friend from high school who will be in europe and also my fiance is the asst. superintendent at Sand Hills Golf Club so we decided on the 11/7/20 date. We were so pumped that it was all falling into place, we got one of the only last dates available at the roca berry farm and now we are starting to look at a room blocks.. *cue the nightmares* because our hotel blocks will be in Lincoln and our wedding date happens to be the Penn State game that has caused our hotel prices to increase DRAMATICALLY. As in $90-100 a night turned into $230-270 all because of the mother flipping football game. ALSO. One of the hotels laughed at us because they said 'WhO wOuLd ScHedUle thEIr WedDinG On a HuSkEr GaMe DaY." Well I guess me, that's who. Not sure if anyone else has been running into these issues, I guess i cared more about my fiance having a day that worked best for him and cared about my friend being at my wedding than scheduling around a husker game... i'm mainly just ranting. We are going to look into some air bnbs for some cheaper options and get a couple different blocks of rooms one at a super 8 and one at one of the nicer hotels. Let me know if anyone else is getting frustrated or running into these types of problems.

I don’t have any great advice for you but I totally feel your pain!! We’re also getting married at Roca Berry but our wedding is in September. We haven’t done anything with room blocks yet because I’ve been dreading it due to ours also being a home game weekend. Every game in September 2020 is a home game!! Do we really need four in a row?😩 I was getting so frustrated trying to find a date that was still available at Roca and would work with the football schedule so I just gave up. My fiancé was also in the golf business until a few months ago so I totally get that struggle of trying to find a date that works for him too.
I think we’re going to check out Airbnb options and maybe even look into Beatrice because it’s really not that far from Roca and there’s a newer Holiday Inn. But their prices could be increased on home game weekends too.
I love Husker football too but it’s not fun when you’re trying to plan a wedding around it! Even if you plan on a bye week it could be like last year where there still ended up being a game. It’s just another part of the stress of wedding planning but it’ll all be worth it for an amazing wedding day! Good luck!!
