HURRICANE SEASON??

MarryingPrinceCharming, on May 25, 2016 at 2:58 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 18

Hello ladies,

So FH and I have yet to chose where we want to go for our honeymoon. We are planning to go a few days after our wedding; so it'll be at the end of august-early september. Originally, we had planned to go somewhere tropical like Turks and ciaos or Cabos Mexico, but apparently it is hurricane season around that time? FH does not want to risk going there but I reallllllly want to go to either of those two places.

Have you been to either or somewhere tropical during 'hurricane season'? What was your experience??

Thanks in advance!

We almost always travel during hurricane season because a) it's cheaper and b) kids are in school so there's less of them around. We haven't run into a hurricane yet (knock on wood). If you aren't a risk taker, buy travel insurance - I've gotten it pretty cheap. Most hotels will let you cancel with 24 hours notice - make sure you read the policy. Airlines usually offer insurance based on the the cost of the ticket - should be around 5%-8%.

I am going to Mexico for my honeymoon in October... I know we may be chancing it (not exactly sure where hurricane season falls), but to me it's worth it. We are staying at an all inclusive resort, knowing that if it isn't great weather, there will still be plenty to do and enjoy.

We're going to St. Lucia in late October for our honeymoon. October is the wettest month of the year there, sooo fingers crossed! Just like Hollyberry, our resort is all-inclusive and we got a pretty nice suite, so I'm sure we will find something to do if we lose some beach time to rain. Smiley smile We did get travel insurance though on both our flights and the resort stay, so just in case of a major storm, we're covered!

    Get trip insurance!

We are taking our honeymoon in hurricane season. We opted for elsewhere but strongly considered the Caribbean. I am sure it'll be fine!

We are doing a destination wedding in Maui in early September. Possible hurricanes but also cheaper because it marks the start of off-season.

If you're nervous, get travel insurance. Im from southern Florida. Hurricane season is my favorite season because we would always get days off from school, have hurricane parties and half the time it never rained. I wouldn't worry too much.

We've taken 3 cruises during hurricane season. And we live in Florida, so we're used to it.

Get good vacation insurance, so if something does happen, at least you'll get your money back!

Get trip insurance. I went to St Lucia in mid November this past year. Apparently the week before we got there it had rained non stop for 3 weeks and the airport wasn't allowing planes to land. So anyone that had trips had to cancel. Good luck!

I have been on trips in September (and this September included) to the Caribbean/Bahamas. We had a close call one year where a hurricane went through a few days before our trip started, but our trip was not affected. Having trip insurance is a good thing though.

We are going on a cruise right after our wedding I would definitely recommend travel insurance in the event the tropics try to stir up

The thing about hurricane season is that it's from June to November. The weather is going to do what it wants regardless of the season. I'd say go for it!

I'm going to Mexico end of August and we purchased travel insurance for it all. I went through a travel agent and she picked a side of the country that hasn't been affected. And if it is bad, we can always go another time. I'm not stressing about it.

Hurrican season runs June thru November. That's half the year!! I never recommend making a decision based on fear. If there is somewhere you've always wanted to go, just book it, and make sure you get the trip insurance.

Hahah I love "Hurricane Season." I put that is parenthesis because I live in Florida and am very familiar with Hurricane season, and we have not had any close calls in several years. I have been on several cruises in May and September over the years, and no bad weather, other than the occasional thunderstorms. I really wouldn't look into it too much, because they usually don't affect cruises. If your cruise is scheduled, and a hurricane forms around that time, they will just divert you to another port. Or sometimes stay longer in another scheduled stop. They do not cancel cruises due to hurricanes. If you are planning on flying to your destination, then I would get trip insurance for sure. Inclement weather can close airports if it's bad enough, and you may end up stuck for a few days. But I would encourage you to book your dream honeymoon and go for it. The chances of a hurricane forming, and getting in your path are very slim.

Aruba and Curaçao are out of the hurricane path if you want to still go somewhere in the Caribbean. We are going to Aruba the first week of August, although not necessarily for this reason - we had just heard such good things about Aruba, so we picked it.
