How to say guests will have to pay for parking

Amber, on May 6, 2024 at 9:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
How should I word on my details card that guests will have to park in parking structure and pay for the day? I do have a website and will have alot more information on there and a map, but I also want to put a little note on the details card with invite to warn them

Ideally, you could reach out to the owner of the garage and arrange to reserve spots for your guests, so they don't have to pay anything. Or some parking places have an app where you can pay to reserve beforehand. But if that's not possible, I would print on the card something like "Parking will be available in (name of garage) one block from the venue."

I just wanted to thank you so much for your help! We are currently in the process of reserving some spots, but I was a bit unsure about how to word it on the invitation. There are so many resources available on how to word everything else, but I was feeling overwhelmed and confused. However, your suggestion is absolutely perfect! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. 🤍

Be aware that despite being so popular online, people in real life don’t read wedding websites to that degree that they are the sole source of information as internet strangers and the wedding industry wants you to think. 1 in 100 may read the website and then forget the information. As long as the address is listed, they can type it into GoogleMaps for directions. Details cards never go out of style and they have all the necessary information in one spot that won’t get lost in cyberspace or whatever happens with technology.

Be blunt and guests appreciate that. Say “Parking at X $Y per vehicle.”

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I want to find ways to cater to both types of guests: those who are comfortable with technology and those who may not be. I also believe in incorporating traditional elements such as sending physical invitations with all the necessary details, RSVPs, and any other inserts. This will make me feel like I am truly getting married and going through the whole process.

Just things are very lengthy with all parking information (since there are multiple parking garages they can pick from and also have a way to reserve there parking but they can’t do it till 2 weeks prior) and I honestly can’t right all that on one card.

Ditto. Unless it's specified that parking is complimentary people know they will have to pay to park in a public lot or manage to find parking on their own. Do not mention the price.

Even so, if someone is comfortable with technology, most still have no issues being given a paper copy of the necessary information. It’s also easier for you, because most don’t realize or acknowledge that extra time and labor on your part equals minimum wage per hour in addition to cost of supplies. That is why a lot of DIY is not cheaper. The details card can be the same size as the invitation to accommodate what you need to relay.

If you browse online, I believe cardsandpockets.com has a visual example, the general details and transportation can be on separate cards if necessary.

Is there only one public parking spot offsite for guests?

    Something to the effect of:

" (Name of Venue) does not have on-site parking for guests and nearby parking options are largely limited and metered. We recommend Uber, Lyft, or taxi services as the most convenient way to reach the venue."

Add on your website (not invitation):

"For guests who chose to drive, parking is available at (name of the lot)." Link the company or a picture or image of a parking attendant before a car is parking so that guests will get the hint.

    Note:
Since guests will be paying for parking, make sure your room blocks are within 5-7 miles as a courtesy.
