How to cover a fence?

Kassie, on September 22, 2017 at 6:43 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

Does anyone have any good ideas for covering a chain link fence? I'm going to get married in FH parents backyard and they have about 200 ft of chain link fence that will be visible from the ceremony and reception and want some ideas on how to cover it. I already thought of lattice but it's pretty expensive for how much I'll need. My next best option is to wrap faux green vines in the fence but that will still be like $300. Any ideas?

Bamboo or reed fencing. You'll still pay a couple hundred dollars, but anything to cover that amount of fence won't be cheap. Check Lowe's, Home Depot, etc online. You can always try to re-sale after.

Hang string or string lights from the tree to the fence or put a pole in. You can decorate the string with a curtain / ribbon / fabric. You would be able to hide the background.

    Another option using curtains.

If your wedding is in 2019, you have plenty of time to plants some seeds or seedlings and cover it with greenery, very inexpensively. Check out vines that are fast growing.

Vines would be great unless the future in laws don't want them. They can be a bit of a pain to mow around.

I feel weird to ask them. It's not my backyard and they are nice enough to let us get married there.

You could make something like this from ribbons and strips of burlap or lace. The cost of materials could add up pretty quickly but you have time to watch for sales and buy the supplies little by little.

Also, I wouldn't suggest doing something like this for the whole fence, just a small portion. ^^^^

Lights might be an option for you but I'm not sure.

@Kassie- your FH should be able to talk with his own parents. You don't have to choose anything permanent. If your wedding is in Phoenix, you should be able to plant seeds of an annual vine and at least get greenery by the date of your wedding, if not flowers.

I FEEL like your type of fencing products might not be what she is looking for.

Kassie now I have to ask, what did you wind up doing about the fence? Honestly, I would just decorate everything else and not draw the eyes to the fence. Put lights in trees, use paper lanterns, draping of material over random things, just leave fence alone to blend into the background.

Well we haven't gotten married yet, but we decided not to stress about it. I think we are going to put some tulle and some lights up but overall I didn't want to stress about it since I figured I would be the only one who actually cared.

I gotta know, what did you end up doing? I am trying to cover some of mine, and just want to find a way to cover a small part of wire fencing with a tarp or black fabric of some kind, but can’t decide what will be cheapest
