How to ask if gift was for bridal shower or wedding?

Jordan, on February 4, 2020 at 8:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

We just started receiving gifts sent to our house for my bridal shower coming up (2 weeks out) and a few have come in for our wedding which is a few months away. All of them so far have had a note and saying who it is from so we know when and who to send the thank you cards to except our most recent one we got. We did get a gift that was from multiple aunts who live in a different state but it doesn't say if it was for the wedding or bridal shower. Not sure how to ask or if i ask or when i should send a Thank you card? Any advice? Thanks so much!

It doesn’t matter which one it was for. You should send a thank you card for gifts as soon as you receive them. Just thanking them for the gift, it doesn’t need to mention which occasion the gift was given for.

Oh okay thank you! That's what i was originally going to do then my FMIL said to wait until the bridal shower and send them all out at once and same for the wedding. But sending them after we receive them makes more sense to me.

Does it really matter which event it was for? Just send a thank you card ASAP.

I didn't think so and that's what i was planning on doing but my FMIL said to wait until after the event because we weren't supposed to open until the bridal shower or wedding? idk i thought that was kind of weird. Thanks!

You can always just take them to the bridal shower and have them kinda displayed on the table

Yes, send thank yous as you get them. You’re not expected to take those gifts to your shower or wedding. You should open now and send a card ASAP.

We’ve been sending thank yous as gifts were received, both for the shower and the wedding.

You always send a thank you card immediately after getting a gift. Any gift people want to wait to see opened, they usually Indicate in a note, save to open at shower. All others, open, inspect, and write a note. Although it is customary to send a wedding gift, most people bring a shower gift to you he shower, or have it delivered to the hostess if at a home. Usually if a shower gift is sent to you, it means they will not be at the shower, so open and thank them.

Why does it matter? I would just send a thank you card.

A thank you card is still sent for the gift no matter which event it was purchased for. You don't have to specify that on your ty cards. You should send ty cards right after you receive each gift.

I've never heard of someone sending bridal shower gifts to the bride's house. Typically they just bring them to the shower.
