How Pennsylvania Is Your Wedding?

Victoria, on February 26, 2019 at 9:20 PM Posted in Pennsylvania Planning 0 8
Pennsylvania has some really fun wedding traditions! My husband is from Pittsburgh so naturally we had a ridiculous cookie table with over 1200 cookies! We skipped the Polka at our wedding but it's been so fun at others we've gone to! In Philly there's the whole serenading of the bride the night before the wedding and older tradition has couples honeymooning in the Poconos which we all know is beautiful and a perfect place to vacation year round. Whoopie pies? Dollar dances? Are you having the Mummers perform at your wedding? (Please send me an invite if so because that is going to be one heck of a party! 😄)

Anyone here incorporating those traditions or others that I didn't list? Or are you bringing in traditions from another locale that you'd like to share?

We're definitely doing the cookie table! Not sure if we'll be incorporating the dollar dance (probably not)

We are actually looking into a self-uniting ceremony where we marry ourselves. Its only allowed in like 4 other states, and was started for the Quakers who dont have a minister perform the ceremony because they are being married by God not man. We like it because we're not religious at all and find it difficult to be married by a pastor or other religious person, and PA can be so weird about people who are ordained online.

I've heard that PA doesn't allow for people to be ordained online and officiate a ceremony. We had my Godfather marry us, but we got married in MD. Of course we took along my husband's PA traditions!

I think self uniting ceremonies are amazing. Very personal. Good luck! Please share how it goes!

We'll have a cookie table, but it won't be anything too extreme (I hope). My aunt and her friend volunteered to make the cookies and they sometimes go a bit overboard.

My family keeps trying to convince me to do a "dollar dance," but I'm not interested. I don't particularly like to dance and I don't do well with one-on-one stuff. I can be a bit socially awkward.

We got married in a church and had our reception at a local fire hall. That's PA for ya. We had the best time ever!

To this day, the best wedding I ever went to (other than my own lol) was held at an Elks club! I don't remember what it looked like, but I remember the food, drinks and dancing!

Victoria I couldn't agree with you more, Having our wedding reception at our local Fire Hall was the best decision we could have ever made. It was affordable, The food was great, Our bartenders were amazing and everyone danced the night away and had a blast. Forget these overpriced fancy places and support your local VFW, Fire Halls, Elks Lodges, and American Legions. You get more bang for your buck!!

I am just outside of Pittsburgh so cookie table is a must!

I have 11 people who volunteered to make cookies.

I didn't realize until I joined wedding wire and other wedding forums that the huge cookie table is a Pittsburgh thing?
