How much input did you have on your ring?

Rosie, on January 4, 2022 at 11:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 59

I am curious to know how much input you had on the design/style of your engagement ring? Did you buy it together? show your fiance your hidden pinterest board and leave him to it? Agree to use a family heirloom? Not get a ring at all?

After we started talking seriously about getting married, I showed my fiance my engagement ring pinterest board. It was a lot of delicate, thin rings with halos like these:

Well... after I showed him I went window shopping and discovered delicate halos like the ones I liked were very difficult to get in Australia and most of what you could get was clunky and ugly and didn't suit me at all! I was so afraid I'd get exactly what I wanted and I'd hate it!

thankfully, despite looking at the board, my sweet fiance only really saw the colour, haha! He bought me a beautiful three stone peach sapphire which is a lot more classic and timeless than what I'd been looking at, and is a beautiful mix of his style and mine, and now whenever I look at it, I'm thinking of us both!

I was completely caught by surprise when he proposed. we had talked about marriage in passing but nothing serious. So we didnt discuss engagement rings at all but I absolutely love my ring and he nailed it.

We went to the jewelry store to ask them about my grandmother’s ring, but decided we didn’t want to ruin the integrity of the ring when they told us they’d have to cut it. While there we tried on some rings so he had an idea of what I liked. He ultimately picked the final setting, but he nailed it. How much input did you have on your ring? 5

We had talked about what ring style I wanted a few times, but at one point he asked to have a conversation about exactly what I wanted, so I made a powerpoint presentation! haha. He loved it and was happy to know all the details and have them for reference when doing the final decisions and customizations.

Aww so sweet! Did he get inspiration from your other jewellery, have help from a friend, or did he just know you that well?

Such a pretty picture! And that must have been a difficult decision to make with such a meaningful piece of jewellery as your grandmother’s ring!

Omg I love this haha! It reminds me of that tiktok trend where people have PowerPoint nights and each guest speaks on a really random topic for 10 mins or whatever!

Ugh. Also realised just now my wording is kind of exclusionary! If you are the groom (or bride!) that did the buying - tell us your process and how you chose, please! All welcome to share their side of the story! 😊

He just knew me that well, the ring is inspired by a favorite movie of mine. We also already have our wedding rings, he was going to pick out a celtic styled ring because I have worn a claddagh ring for years but we went into a jewelry store for something else and I saw a ring I loved and we picked it up that day. It sits in its box hidden away until the big day.

Both! LOL FH proposed with a beautiful diamond Art Deco ring that I’d had my eye on (for a right hand ring). Then we went to a jeweler and created my “official” engagement ring together.

I sent my fiancé a few photos of the style I like about a year before he proposed, because he asked. I told him Emerald cut, with a halo, and a decorative band. He hit all the high points!

I have two rings: the first one (the peridot), I had absolutely no input on. Our engagement was a total surprise to me, and I did not know anything about it! He picked this ring out completely by himself. 💚

For the second ring, we went to a jeweler together to pick it out after we got engaged. He didn't want to ask me to look at rings beforehand, since he wanted the proposal to be a total surprise.

I sent her photos of about 5 rings that I really loved and let her decide from there. I got exactly what I wanted!

I had given him access to my Pinterest board, which included several different rings all similar styles; blue topaz stone, simple, but with some kinda twisting elements. How much input did you have on your ring? 8
My fiancé, being the smart man he is, said he wasn’t going to get me one exactly like one of these. He knew the expectations might not live up to the reality so he said he would get me one inspired but not identical.

I was very nervous. He’s very sweet and thoughtful but sometimes his gifts are a little out of left field 😂 but I knew I wanted to be surprised.
And boy was I!!!! He pops the question and I barely even see the ring but I see a flash of blue and a halo design that I was not expecting! After the shock wore off a bit I get a good look at it and FALL IN LOVE!!!How much input did you have on your ring? 9
I never would have picked this design out for myself but I quickly became obsessed. He did and amazing job and I wouldn’t change a thing!

I sent my husband a direct link to the exact ring I wanted with all the specifications already entered. I bought my own wedding band. He hates shopping and I knew what I wanted. No sense beating around the bush or risk him getting something I didnt like. He appreciated the transparency and I love my ring.

I told my best friend everything I wanted and sent him my pinterest board. Then told my FH "Andrew knows what I want, ask him". My bff sent my FH my pinterest board, got my ring size (a difficult thing to do since I don't wear jewelry) and signed off on his pick before he bought it

Awww, SUPER sweet! We bought our wedding rings pretty early too, and likewise, they're hidden in their box, waiting for the day. It's hard not to want to sneak them on now and then, haha!
