How much beer would you buy?

Melinda, on November 18, 2021 at 2:21 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 6

We just received our beer pricing information from our venue (we have to use their beer vendor) and I was a little sticker shocked. We originally were going to do a keg however the pricing is way above market value for them in our area (i'm a bartender haha)!

So now we are thinking of ordering cans to save some money. They come in 24 packs and we are expecting 105 guests- about 80 of those will have atleast one alcoholic drink.

We will also be having red and white wine as well as a margarita machine.

How many 24 packs of beer would you buy? I was thinking 6 but wanted everyone elses opinion.

How many beer drinkers are you expecting and how many cans are going to be allowed per person? If you have an average 50 people drinking 3 cans of beer then 6 isn't enough. Obviously some people will drink like 3 cans or less and be done, but I feel as though many beer drinkers have no problem drinking 4+ cans over a 3-4 hour span.

Thank you! I will take this into consideration. I don't want to leave any guests thirsty!

Something like that might be able to help you a bit better! Maybe just consider the "spirits" option to be the percentage of people drinking margaritas. It definitely depends on your crowd and this makes it a bit easier.

We used a similar drink calculator like PP: https://www.evite.com/pages/party/drink-calculator/

Since you're focusing on beer and wine + margarita machine, I'd deselect liquor and see what either of the drink calculators tell you - this one worked well for us, plus the store we bought our alcohol from allowed returns of unopened bottles!

Oh, gosh my husband and I have friends and family that can DRINK! My husband's friends and family can drink beer right after the other lol. While we did bring our own alcohol we still wanted to limit it because we didn't want our guests to get TOO drunk. We had 50 people (including the two of us) with about 35 guests that drink beer. So We went to Costco and bought the 30 or more cases of beer. We bought 2 cases of bud light, 2 cases of coors light, and then we went to Winco to buy 2 cases of modelo. It was pretty much all gone by the end of the night. We also had a margarita machine (2 flavors) and some hard alcohol.
So, it just kind of depends on your crowd on how much you think they drink. Oh, and we designated one of our bartender friends to bartend for the night so he was super helpful.
