How far has the pandemic set back your wedding/venue date?

Originally 23 July 2020, but then covid happens, so we postponed 2x. Now we are August 2022.

Originally July 31, 2020, now July 29, 2022 (we postponed once).


I don't think it's crazy to book this far out if you are 100% sure that is the venue you want, but I also don't think you need to rush to book anything. Most weddings being postponed from 2021 will likely postpone to 2022. Also, some venues may not book for 2023 until next year. It's a smart idea to start looking around to tour venues and get an idea of what's out there, but with it being almost three years before your wedding, you shouldn't need to rush to book something immediately. If you find a venue you absolutely love, and they're willing to book this far in advance, go for it! But also keep in mind that a lot can change in 2.5 years. Maybe ask the venue to put a soft hold on your date until this fall (or unless someone else asks about it before then), and then officially book in the fall?

I don't think I'd book a venue more than 2 years in advance, but that's just me. Your tastes could change, the venue could go out of business, lots could happen between now and then.

Our October wedding got moved 6 months to this coming April.

Our original wedding date was November 2020, rescheduled to November 2021, and now rescheduled again to November 2022.
No, you are absolutely not crazy for wanting to book 2 years out! To be honest, a lot of couples book that far out even during normal times (we booked our venue 20 months out before anyone have even heard of COVID-19)... but I think it is even wiser to do it now with the pandemic changing everyone’s dates. Especially if you are wanting a Fall wedding! Those book up so fast! Our venue, photograper and officiant have all said they are already filling up Fall 2023! Plus, to be completely honest, I do not think a lot of this year is going to be as great as everyone is hoping it is going to be (in terms of restrictions being lifted for weddings), so there are likely going to be a lot of 2021 brides trying to scramble for 2022 dates... and as quickly as those are being filled up, they may be spilling over into 2023. If there is a particular date you are wanting for your wedding, I would definitely try to secure that date in the near future, so you are not having to choose a new one or settle on the venue you don’t like as much. Love the venue and what's all included. A soft hold is a good idea. I'd love to not have to put down the initial deposit now and wait until June or so, but if that means losing the date I'd be so sad. I've even debated moving my wedding up a year because I"m ready to finally get married, but I'm afraid COVID restrictions may still be in place next year.

Fall weddings are so popular and I live in the Buffalo area so theres only so many weekends of fall that are aceptable. I am definietly going to ask the venue when I tour next week how booked they are for 2023 already.

I definitely would ask the venue if they can put a soft hold on your date, and give them an estimated date that you plan to put a deposit down. That way, they know that they're not indefinitely holding the date with no deposit, and they have a timeframe from which they can expect a deposit from you. Not all venues will do this, but hopefully your venue will allow it!

We re keeping it the state/area where we're getting married doesn't have restrictions on gathering sizes, whether you can dance etc. The only problem is a lot of our guests (and us) live in areas with travel restrictions where you have to quarantine upon arrival, but you can get a negative test and not have to so we have provided instructions on how to do that and are going ahead with it.

We have invited about 175, I'll be happy with 100. Ceremony inside a large church, reception outdoors (original plan). I think we did our due diligence in postponing the first time and I feel confident about moving forward.

We got engaged Sept 23, 2017. Original date: 5/4/19 > 6/7/19 > 6/7/20 > 1/5/22 > 9/23/21. I could not make up my mind. Finally picked an actual date and went for it.

View Quoted Comment Yeah, when I contacted them to reschedule they were really worried about being able to find a date for me because all weekends of 2022 were completely filled and they were booking weddings in 2023! Luckily, our date is very meaningful to us and it fell on a week day next year, so everyone was able to accommodate. Typically I would never do a weekday wedding, but we are having a destination wedding, and all our guests will be taking off work to travel no matter what, so no one cared what day it was on. Otherwise we would have had to push our date back to 2023.

I set my date back by a year. Went from a venue to no venue at all, marrying outside.

We are having to cancel for the 2nd year due to covid. June 19th 2020, then June 19, 2021 not sure of our new date for 2022. But I agree with your family on waiting about a year out as I've seen venues go under and you don't want to lose your money if that occurs. Also only make the minimum deposit for the same reason.

Hi it doesn't make you crazy go ahead and book it. I got engaged last July to my better half and we decided to get married next April hopefully the pandemic is over. I booked my venue in july I say go for it
