How do you vet vendors?

Rosario, on April 1, 2022 at 12:19 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

I am looking for a photographer and am going off the preferred vendor list from the venue, but these photographers don't have a presence on weddingwire or the knot so I can't read any reviews. I know photographers can help anchor the timeline so I'd like to work with a seasoned pro. What are some ways you vet vendors? Do you trust preferred vendor lists?

Hey Rosario! I LOVE preferred vendor list from trusted sources because the vendors on there are 'pre-vetted' by whomever you received it from. They also have probably worked together before so it will help make everything run smoothly.

When I was looking for a photographer, I had my fiancé use this article for questions! And based on their answers we decided if they were a good fit for us. Hope this helps!https://www.brides.com/story/questions-to-ask-your-photographer-before-booking

Thanks for the tip! I will absolutely be using this list of questions on my call with them tomorrow.

Definitely ask those questions to make sure they know what they’re doing! Also check for reviews, mine had tons of spam positive reviews on google, and see if you can find them on Instagram and Facebook! Also definitely ask if you can see an example wedding album. Mine sent us quite a few right away and I knew I wanted to work with them instantly!

Look on google, yelp, and Facebook for reviews and look for them on Instagram as well. Wedding wire and the knot aren't super reliable for reviews because vendors can challenge bad reviews and have them taken down. Also if you decide to meet with any, ask them to bring a full wedding gallery with them so you can see the entirety of their work and not just what they post on their website/social media.

Look on social media, and google reviews. If they're on your venue's preferred vendor list, your venue may have some of their work to show you as well. One question I asked every photographer we met with was if I could see a gallery of their work.

If you have friends/family that have gotten married in the same area, I would ask who they used and if they liked them. My sister got married before I did, and we are using all the vendors that they were happy with. She also got a lot of recommendations from friends who got married. Also, if you ask for photos/videos from their weddings, it can show you their work.
