How close do we wait to cancel?! September 2020 date

Katy, on July 15, 2020 at 9:53 AM Posted in Colorado Planning 0 4
Hey all! Hope you’re staying sane! Our wedding is September 19, 2020 and we are in Colorado but most of our guests are coming from Ohio. Our guest list is at 92 right now so headcount limits aside we’re getting concerned with the recent spikes. But now that we’re about two months out, we are considering postponing it, which is a big bummer because we’ve already had a two-year engagement. How soon do we pull the plug on this year’s date? A lot of guests have recently been booking their Airbnb’s and flights, which hopefully can be rescheduled, but it just feels like the risk of someone getting sick would be such a heartbreak. My event planner has been a total letdown too. Advice? As much as I hate seeing how sad everyone is at least I know I’m not the only one feeling such heartbreak over all the wedding planning pandemic crap. Thanks and be safe!

I would give it a few more weeks - I'm not sure what part of CO you are in, but here in El Paso county they are discussing a shutdown again in two weeks if cases don't level out. I saw that Denver is now also putting requests to allow more people into places like the zoo and gardens on hold - so I wonder if retracting large groups is coming for Denver as well. Smiley sad More counties are pushing for masks now as well. Maybe give it to 8/1 and see what the state is looking like? I'm sorry you are in this spot! We decided to proceed with ours, because I'm hesitant to push out a year when we could be relocated (military). Now our 22 person wedding is a 6 person wedding.

I'm sorry Katy - it's such a tough decision! The number of guests who need to fly to attend would be a little bit concerning to me, but it sounds like you've said your guests have already started booking things!

Here's a few discussions you should check out where other September brides have also been sharing their concerns and current plans:

Thank you!! We are likely going to postpone- it’s just not worth the risk of someone falling ill.
