How can i mix several themes together?

Rena, on December 11, 2023 at 12:47 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

My husband is into Dracula and we have talked about a black and red wedding theme but Gold would to me look great in it. I am open to whatever theme, I just want it to be spectacular. I also looked at some viking weddings and Bohemian and i love them all. I want to kind of incorporate everything into the decorations and style of the wedding, even Indian because i love the colors and style of everything. I am having a hard time mixing everything together to make it look coherent and not all over the place like me. Also I am open to colors as well and I have not set a color theme either. I will be making my own wedding dress to fit the theme of it all

It sounds like this is a good example of less is more. While all of those sound like great themes, it sounds like all of them together may be a bit too much. I would select one color scheme and go from there. Weddings don’t really need a particular “theme” and going too heavy into any given theme may push decor more towards kids birthday party and away from wedding. The focus is on you two as a couple, and most guests won’t be paying too much attention to the majority of the decor other than to acknowledge that it’s pretty.

I think you are going to need to narrow your theme down to just a couple ideas that "flow" with one another. The themes you listed are VERY different from one another, and I'm not sure how you would incorporate them together without it looking confusing/messy. The Dracula them would be more opulent, gothic and dramatic. Bohemian would be light and airy. Viking would be very rustic. I think you need to sit down with your fiancé and look through inspiration photos together and decide on what you want the vibe to be.

Another option would be to choose a venue with separate spaces for each portion of your wedding. That would allow you to create different vibes/themes for each event. For example, you could have your ceremony outdoors and decorate it in a bohemian style. Then you could have your cocktail hour in one room, and have an Indian vibe. Then you could have your reception in a different room, and decorate it in the gothic Dracula vibe.

I agree that it’s going to be hard to blend all these themes together. It’s okay to have a lot of ideas and spin them around to see how they work, but you’re usually better off in the end if you pick just one, or even a few key points rather than a whole theme. I had tons of ideas for

(Sorry, cut off) I had tons of ideas for my wedding, from color schemes to style to entertainment. But we came together with something in the end that reflects us well. That’s what matters most.

Rocknrollbride has several real weddings that can help you with gothic mix inspiration. Or simplify with just a few elements. For example, adding Boho feathers to centerpieces on jewel toned Indian-inspired tablecloths. Or as Cece suggested, have separate spaces. An outdoor viking forest ceremony in your dark attire, retiring inside to an Indian-vibe, colorful cocktail hour, transitioning to to a gothic romance reception room with low light.

I also googled a feathers and skulls gothic-boho wedding that blended color and silver very well.

What specific things do you like about each theme? Maybe we could help you find the overlap between the themes and looking up those elements may be helpful

You *could* but it might all get muddled together (especially since some elements of a Viking/Nordic wedding don’t seem to match the dark Dracula goth vibe). I’d suggest choosing an overall Dracula goth wedding (colors, decor), with only a few Viking elements mixed in (toasting flutes with Viking symbols, maybe a Viking reading in your ceremony).
