Hotel price etiquette

Melanie, on December 11, 2023 at 6:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
Hi! I'm getting married in a smallish downtown metropolitan area, so surrounding hotels near the venue are pretty pricey. I want to get some courtesy hotel blocks for our out of town guests, as well as suggest some other surrounding hotels in the area on our website. I want to be considerate of others financials, so I've been looking a little outside the downtown area as well. What nightly rate would you consider to be too expensive for a hotel stay for a wedding? I am in the Midwest for context

That is really a guest by guest basis. What is affordable to me may be not be affordable to you. The best you can do, is try for the courtesy block, and then leave it at that. Guests will (should) research the hotels, airbnb, vrbos, etc. in the area and then figure it out. There is only so much you can do without taking on tasks that are not yours to figure out.

As the previous poster said, this is going to vary from guest to guest. I would select 1-2 hotels right nearby the venue and leave it at that. If those are outside of their price range, guests know they can use Google/AirBnB/Expedia/etc. for other accommodations within their budget.

Most weddings I've attended have rooms in the $150 range and $300 range to accommodate different price points. I likely wouldn't spend more than $300 for a small, midwest city.

What is affordable vs expensive varies from person to person. We live in a very high cost of living area and frequently travel as well. $100/ night is the max we would spend, while others we know would not spend more than $40 and others would prefer a minimum of $200 thinking that more expensive is better. It depends on the person.

My guests have varying budgets, so instead of doing hotel blocks,I just recommended a few hotels in the area with varying price ranges to meet lower and higher budgets!
