Hotel blocks.

Is there any benefit to getting hotel blocks if your venue is in a more remote location? Has anyone not gotten one? Do your guests save any money?

Our venue was not in a remote location. For our hotel block, guests received discounted room rates of $50 off the regular rate.

It depends on the hotel. The closest hotels to my venue were between a 15-30 minute drive. I booked a room block, as well as transportation between the hotel and venue. Those staying in the room block were mostly the ones who took the shuttle. For the room block for my wedding, the hotel honored our 2020 pricing when we postponed to 2022, so our guests definitely saved money by booking in the block! Even in 2020, they would have saved a little bit (but not a whole lot) by booking in the block. But it also depends on the guest's situation. Some people are frequent travelers, and they gather up reward points at specific hotels quickly. Some of your guests might save more by using their points instead of going through the block.

As for your question on whether it's worth it to book a room block, I think a courtesy room block is always worth it! It's no cost to you and no risk, since any unbooked rooms are released back to the hotel a few weeks before your wedding. But it would help out-of-town guests know where a reliable place to stay is, and would guarantee them an available room if other hotels are booked up.

Thanks for the info. I'll go ahead and reserve one. I've already had people book rooms. I haven't even sent out my save the dates yet 😂

I think our guests saved literally $1 by booking into our room block vs booking on their own. Our reception venue was on the top floors of a high-rise hotel, but the venue and hotel were considered different companies and had different names. We got a block at that hotel to try to direct guests there so they wouldn't have to worry about walking anyplace or figuring out an Uber or DD. We also coordinated a shuttle to take guests from the hotel to the church and back, so we wanted to try to get our guests to stay in that hotel so they'd have easier access to the shuttle.
