Honeymoon

Looking for places in the united states to go on a honeymoon. We love the outdoors, but also love the beach. We loved going to Isla Mujres, but this time want to stay in the US. We also are from Des Moines, IA and dont want to spend more than $3000. Any recommendations?

I went to Surfside Beach, TX a few years back on a Spring Break. Super affordable. Hotel right on the beach. I don't even think I spent $800. We went during a slightly off season so we got a cheap rate. The only down side was that some of the local restaurants were closed, so we had to drive to Pearland for dinner.

I also had an excellent time at North Clearwater Beach, Florida.

I grew up in San Diego, it's a beautiful place with so much to do! Some of our favorite vacations in the summer have been New Orleans and New York.

We're going to Destin, FL. They've got white sand beaches and emerald clear water. All things considered (flights, airbnb, food, rental car, excursions/shopping) we're looking at $2,500.

I'm kind of partial since it's where my guy and I fell in love, but the Harbor County area of Michigan is BEAUTIFUL! Plenty of public beaches, and maybe even a semi-private one if you get a vacation rental!

There are also a ton of vineyards/wineries, breweries, restaurants, tons of pretty nature. The Warren Dunes are a perfect mix of nature and beach. Beach, trees and hilly hiking, plus camping if you're into that. If not, there are some lovely fancy hotels, B&Bs and some very nice-looking airBnBs in the area.

You can also do day trips up the coast or even 'road trip' it and stay at a few places. Saugatuck is a really funky, hip little lakeside town not too far north. If you do go farther up north toward Mackinaw (also a cute little destination town), there's a dark sky park where you can occasionally catch the northern lights! Or just some really pretty stargazing if that's you're thing. It's ours, and the dark sky park is definitely on our bucket list! A bunch of big, sprawling state parks as well.

We don't have the work PTO or money for our 'proper' honeymoon right after our wedding, so we're planning that for the following summer, but we might do a 'mini-moon' starting in Harbor County (we're getting married about half an hour south, just over the border in Indiana).

Every time we're there, we discover something new to fall in love with. Tons of little hidden gems.

We are going to California as we are from the east coast and I’ve never been there before. We are going to do the LA touristy stuff, a short 4 day cruise to Mexico and then 4 days in Disneyland. I think CA will have a lot of options for you.

I'm a California girl (born and raised), so I second this suggestion!! I would also recommend Northern California. We have some of the most beautiful beaches! You can go from beach, to wine country, to central desert country, all within a couple hours' drive. Lots of things to do and see! Just remember the water of the Pacific ocean is VERY cold!!! Still fun and beautiful though.
