Honeymoon yes or no ?

Monica, on August 3, 2020 at 11:04 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 21
My fiancé and I are debating if we go honeymoon in the United States and drive somewhere or fly to Mexico or Jamaica. They have a lot less cases but also very nerve racking. Wanting peoples thoughts our wedding is 10/10/20

Depending on where you live, you may have to quarantine when you get home, so that's definitely something to consider. If you're worried about catching the virus, it's probably best not to fly right now. Airplanes are actually pretty safe, but you have to be in contact with a lot of people on your way to and from the plane, so there's a relatively high risk of transmission during the non-flying part of air travel. If you're not that worried about it, it could be a nice break from the craziness right now. We decided to go on our planned honeymoon next year, or after the reception if 2021 doesn't work out. We're just going to stay near a beach about an hour from home for a few days after the wedding this year, so we still get a little bit of a honeymoon, but we're not taking much of a risk virus-wise, and we don't have to quarantine when we get home.

I don’t think that it’s safe or responsible to travel internationally right now and honestly, I don’t think that things are going to get better in the fall. Maybe consider a stateside mini moon this year and a bigger trip once things have started to improve.

Our wedding is 4/3/21 & we’re going to Jamaica (at a Sandals resort) for our honeymoon. Once we pulled the trigger on that, it was a lot less nerve racking. The idea of an all inclusive resort took so much pressure off of us. Only major decisions we have to make is “should we do an excursion today or chill at the beach? Or maybe some alone time in our room???”

I would consider something local. I don’t think I’d go international anytime soon either

I agree with PP, I wouldn't travel internationally right now (and we can't to a lot of places, anyway), but that doesn't mean you can't find a local minimoon.

Is there some nice, quiet, remote spot within driving distance of you? A lake or a forest or something? I'd rent a little RV or cabin and go spend a few days together.

We’re still planning on going on our cruise to the Bahamas unless the cruise line cancels it. I actually got an email for the department of state that my passport should be here within the week.

Honestly, I was reading somewhere else that one of the ladies works for the airlines and it’s probably safer and cleaner now to fly than its ever been. If you have your heart set on going outside of the country, my vote is Jamaica. We almost booked an all inclusive resort there.

I agree international travel is not the bestest choice. Like others mentioned, you will need to quarantine when you get home too. Also a lot of places, including Jamaica, have new rules. You have to pre apply to enter the country right now, and if you are from a high risk country, or high risk job, you have to self isolated upon arrival until the covid test comes back. I hope you find a beautiful spot to honeymoon!

I think you should still plan a honeymoon. You can travel safely both by air or car and expose yourself EQUALLY to the same amount of people in travels.

Flying right now has never been safer / cleaner than it is right now - You actually interact with less people in my opinion than you have in the past as long as you maintain social distancing. We've traveled by air and car already twice and plan on travelling this week. We've safely put my FHs son (10) on a plane several times to travel between our home and his.

I think you have to decide what kind of honeymoon you want, obviously traveling internationally across the big pond isn't possible, but you can look at other areas. As some mentioned be sure to check to see if quarantine restrictions are in both directions so you don't waste time off or a trip. This weekend will be our second visit to Colorado and a month ago we visited Wilmington Beach.

We actually always planned our honeymoon around our wedding resort so we're just staying at the same place for a week - granted it's in October.

We are essential workers and have continued to work through this awful pandemic and we're following every safety measure possible, but we're not going to stay locked up any longer either. That's not being irresponsible or naive, it's looking at ALL the facts and making our own informed decisions. At the end of the day, just remember your safe measures, keep to social distancing, wash your hands and wear a mask (if you safely can) and do what you and your FH feel is safe for YOU.

Before COVID hit, FH and I had booked a honeymoon to Italy for the day after our 10/3/2020 wedding. We obviously know that will not happen, nor would we like to be on a plane for that long. We are considering having our honeymoon within our home state to avoid the possible need to quarantine after returning home since some states have strict requirements for that.

At this time I would definitely consider something much more local...i wouldn't feel comfortable traveling out of U.S.

I don's really see a problem with flying, just check the quarantine rules in your state and the quarantine rules in Mexico or Jamaica. Smiley smile

I don't think it would be irresponsible if you are following proper precautions and following the countries rules such as getting tested within their required time frame from arrival. There have been plenty of people that are still going to other countries. How is it responsible to travel to another state in the US for vacation but not another country. There can be transmission is rest stops and bathrooms too. And honestly these countries opening up for tourists need it and have much lower rates than the U.S.

Like PPs have stated, look into the quarantine rules that Mexico and Jamaica have. I know Mexico is still allowing Americans into the country but I'm not sure about Jamaica. One other suggestion would be to do a small getaway closer to home and when cases are getting more under control, look into international travel. Even though our wedding is in July 2021 our honeymoon is in January 2022, mostly based on timing of the cruise but that gives the world more time to get under control if it's still bad in 2021. Ultimately, the decision is yours and your FHs. Do whatever feels right for you both Smiley smile

I would personally do a mini-moon somewhere local in your home state, and wait to go to Mexico or Jamaica when it's safe and have your big honeymoon later.

We have to make this decision as well. We are getting legally married this year, even though we postponed the big wedding to next year. We already paid for plane tickets and put a deposit down for a Sandals vacation. I'm not too worried about exposure once we are there, as I read that Sandals has a lot of protocols in place, but it is more about getting on a plane or going in the airport. Plus, who knows how much worse it could get in the fall, what if they don't let us come back to the US right away? I guess there are worse things than being stuck on an island for your honeymoon....

Didn’t think about renting an RV yes! I’ll let my fiancé know that’s a good idea.

We're getting married in Jamaica 10/9/20. I think it depends on the vibe you want and the amount of money you want to spend. We're getting married and honeymooning at Sandals South Coast Resort

My fiancé and I are going to Mexico November 9th after our wedding. We are super excited and not too worried. I am already a germ freak so I carry all necessary items to clean wherever we might touch and to wash out hands with hand sanitizer when we don’t have access to soap and water.
