Honeymoon unknown?

Katie, on April 7, 2021 at 2:44 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 22
Anyone else’s honeymoon up in the air due to covid? We get married May 2nd and are supposed to leave for our honeymoon to Tahiti May 3rd. Tahiti hasn’t announced if/when they will be reopening. I booked this trip a year ago and they won’t let me move it or rebook it until Tahiti announces it. No one knows when that will be.
I am at the point of not looking forward to it anymore, it’s incredibly disheartening and frustrating Smiley sad

I’m sorry 😞 . We are putting off our July honeymoon until at least September if not next summer. We are still taking a week to explore our surrounding states and have some well deserved chill time. Hope things work out.

Yes. We’re planning on Fiji the last two weeks of september and their borders are still closed.

We ended up not booking our big trip to Iceland due to the unknown. It just seemed too stressful to book something without knowing if we could go and what the restrictions would be. Planning the wedding that way was bad enough! Instead we are heading up to Bar Harbor, ME for the week! We are so excited!

Somewhat in the same boat. We had our 12 day Ireland, Scotland, England honeymoon tour booked for last July. Obviously, that didn't happen. We had planned on taking it this summer instead. Now that Europe is back to being locked down, we're no longer going to be doing this summer. Our fingers are crossed that next summer happens (especially since our vouchers expire next year!).

Unfortunately, Tahiti has closed it's boarders until at least the end of April. In mainland France we are on lockdown until end of April, but most likely mid May. Tahiti will follow suit depending on what the President announces in 3 weeks.

Sorry to hear this. I'm getting married in October 2021 and we are just starting book things for our March 2022 South Africa & Mauritius honeymoon. I'm a bit nervous to start booking things, but we are only going to book refundable or changeable things for now.

Oh gosh, I hope the announcement is made soon so you can at least have peace of mind about whether you’re going or not!

I’m in Australia and our international borders have been closed for more than a year now so no one has been leaving. We’ve tentatively booked a cruise for our December 2021 honeymoon but I don’t think it’ll be going ahead because our government is quite cautious (we’ve responded to COVID well but around the world, not so much).

Ugh, yes! I'm so much more upset about our honeymoon than our wedding - we're very lucky and able to have pretty much exactly the wedding we wanted to have, but that's not the case with the honeymoon.

We've booked to go to Tasmania (since we live in Australia) and we're going to a resort which has apparently won best boutique hotel in the world, so I'm sure it will be nice, but it's no Tuscany, Sorrento or Santorini Smiley sad

And people keep telling us we can just have a second one later on, but we're in our mid 30s and so it's likely we'll be having a family before things open up enough again to have the trip we'd dreamed of - and kids are wonderful but it wouldn't exactly be the romantic, 'lie by the pool and be treated like royalty while drinking mimosas' kind of honeymoon we'd dreamed of!

Fellow Aussie here, and obviously, same! We weren't sure if we should even book Tasmania, it being interstate from us!

Wooh! Aussie in the house (we are such a minority here)!

Lol we might not be able to go to Tassie, or the South Pacific, but hey, at least we can fly to NZ? Mind you FH and I are both terrified of flying so it doesn't help us much.

Woo! *high five!* haha, I hear you.

We do have some really beautiful places here at home, but it's so hard to justify since they are so outrageously expensive. I've never been to a resort here and been blown away by the decor, service or even a single element, especially not for the actual cost - not compared to what you could get literally anywhere else.

Ah well, it is what it is and we'll make the best of it.

It doesn’t help that we are such a big country. My in-laws are an 8 hour drive away (same state) so we try escape internationally wherever we can to avoid ‘another roadtrip’. Here’s hoping things open up soon!

Yep. Getting married 5/29/21 and had a western Caribbean cruise booked for June only to find out they MAY be booking again July. Super bummed as there is not a lot of options that are restricted right now.

Yes. We had originally planned on Italy in September 2020 but obviously we couldn't go. We got legally married then anyways and just drove around Colorado. It was actually a lot of fun and a nice opportunity to see more of our state. We hope we can go to Italy for our 1 year anniversary in September but it's unknown. If not, maybe spring/summer 2022 but that's really the absolute latest we're willing to wait because we'd like to start a family. If we don't go to Italy we may go to Hawaii over winter instead.

Boy, am I late on this! We get married August 27th 2021, and I have no clue what we will be doing for our honeymoon. A part of me thinks doing a staycation in Texas, or traveling somewhere in the U.S.A. might be a good option, and then hopefully we can have our real honeymoon next year. Now, where that will be? I still have no clue! I don’t have much experience booking vacations online, and an hesitant of booking something through some bogus website😩

We booked our trip through Costco and they’ve actually been really great with managing and contacting all the changes. They handle everything from airfare, hotel, transportation, etc. despite all the change, they have really been on top of it!

Totally get it. we are in our 30s too and want to start a family. I hope it all works out for you! I lived in Australia for 6 months in college and fell in love with it. If it was open we’d be going there!!

Thank you! We are so lucky, we live in such a beautiful country and there are some really lovely options available to us, but it does tend to be outrageously overpriced, compared to what we could get basically anywhere else in the world for the same money. I hope you have your chance to visit us one day too, and have a fabulous honeymoon, wherever it ends up being.
